Thanks, guys! Toolpod, they WORKED! :') Haven't posted in a few weeks: here's the short and skinny. Doing 3x8 on the bench is once again becoming a drag. I know I promised the doc I'd do more reps, but I'm looking at a 3x5 mini-pyramid, or modified Buckeye or Bossi reverse pyramid. I'd like to continue the lower weight reps to continue to condition the arm, but counting to 8 over and over sure is boring... I'll let yall know how it goes.
Sunday got a mild tweak in my back changing truck batteries.... what are the odds? Tuesday's squat workout ended up 405x2 singles, but the tweak is going away. I don't usually post back, bicep, or shoulder workouts being as they are merely an excuse to get to the gym in between squats, benches, and deadlifts... but the arm is increasing in strength and yesterday I was able to do 3x10 with 75 on the hammer curl bar. Followed up with 2x8 and 1x6 dumbess curls with 40# dumbells. Not spectacular, but a blessing no doubt! Also went up to 270x8 on the low pulls and 185x10 on the high pulls.
Deadlifted today. Got 405x10 singles, plenty of time, no sweat. However, Gillingham's thumbs have my lifelong respect. That is superwickedmcnasty on the thumbs, especially on a bar with really sharp knurling...
God Bless!

Good day at the office on the DLs. Glad to hear the recovery is coming along...slow but steady. I tried Gillingham's grip once. That pretty much says it all. lol

Very nice! Anyone who somehow uses the gillingham grip is an animal. I don't even like to do 130# with that grip. Yikes. Glad to see things progressing for you.

Thanks, guys.
About the Gillinggrip: I learned early on the trick is to find that point of balance between where it feels your thumbs are being pulled off by a dump truck, and the point where it feels like that little fold of skin on the inside of your thumb feels like it's being squeezed in a vise. I put my index and middle finger on my thumbnail, which ends up feeling like a combo being pulled off by a Toyota 4x4 and squeezed in a pair of pliers. MUCH better. The hook grip is NOT for reps...
:')
Thanks again guys.
God Bless.

Thanks, guys. Last week on the bench I decided go 275 for 5 paused singles, then do a 3x8 with 225, to kind of transition from the 8 rep sets back to something more familiar. Yesterday did a straight 3x3 with 275 touch-n-go. Not anything to write home about but it was certainly a blessing to get under that kind of weight for reps again, paused or not.
Last week got 405 on the squats for a 3x3. Today I went to 425. Thought I'd transition into that as well. Did a 2, 2, 3 combo, the three on the last set went up good. Think next week I'll try to go all 3x3.
God Bless!

Sounds like you're doing a great job. Keep up the hard work. I'll be looking forward to your 3x3 next week.

Thanks, all!
It would be my privelege to report that today I was able to squat 425 for 3x3. However, it didn't "quite" happen that way. Was able to go 3, 2, 3 so all is good. Last week was 2, 2, 3 so it's an improvement.
Yesterday was able to hit 280 for 3x3, all t-n-g, but a blessing nonetheless. Finished off with 225 for 7, 10, 5 and was gassed. The young fellow I'm training upped his weight from 165 to 175. With 165 we were doing 3x8 and I was using compensatory acceleration to keep the bar moving fast. Since we went up in weight and he's a newby, I wanted him to do 3x6. Well, without me touching the bar, he got 6, 6, 7 and I helped him finish the 8th. Then we dropped to 135. Usually he gets 10 but yesterday got 12-1/2. Let's suffice it to say I had a great day in the gym yesterday!
God Bless.

Nice, nice lifting!
Do you notice on squats that the first set of a planned 5 x 3 or 3x 3 is the hardest? I feel that it's almost like the final warm up and even if the other sets are "harder" they feel more comfortable.

3Speed asked me where I had been. Gosh, has it really been since 11/11 that I posted? That is uncharacteristic....
:')
The training has been going EXACTLY as the past few weeks and months. The bench is up to 275 for 3x3 paused, the squat is still the squat, and the deadlift is up to 425x10 singles. The arm hasn't given me any grief. As Aaron would say, All Glory to GOD!
On a side note, the young guy I'm training on the bench is up to 185 for 8, 7, 7. Monday we're going to max out. I'm hoping for him to hit 225-230.
God BLess.
