Weight sure does play a big role but boy we have some strong under 200 guys around here. The 165 crowds reps real well. Boy, that must of hit the wallet hard with that wardrobe change!
By the way your inspiration is my inspiration (if that makes any dang sense)!

Chancey, Yes, I have had to make a number of clothing changes in the past 2 years. Check out these before and after pictures that I put on my server. Look like a totally diifferent person after 2 years. 11/04/04 - Florida - 165 lbs. www.aquafuninc.com/images/JIM1.jpg02/16/07 - Home - 220 lbs. www.aquafuninc.com/images/JIM2.jpgI have worked hard to make sure it mostly went in the right places. Congrats on the big gains you've made, both in your bench press and bodyweight. It's nice to see you overcome your numerous issues and perservere. "Bury me with my bench" I love that!

1st thanks to everybody for their support. Best Forum in the Sport.
Doug,
I went to the chiropractor Wed. and he thought everything was in pretty good shape. It has been since Oct. since I had seen him last.
He did indicate that there was a slight problem right between the Shoulder Blades and it could affect my right side strength some. He should hopefully have it corrected in a couple of weeks.
I noticed that my bench shifts on me some also. It is not a fixed bench - so I am going to find a way to secure the pad to the bench better.
He pretty much cleared me to go ahead with what I am doing with Squat and Deadlift.
So here we go!!! ;D
2/23/07 - Squats - Legs
Body Weight - 220 lbs.
I did squats instead of arms today. Forearm seem really burnt from Deadlift and Bench this week.
Conventional Squats - 135 x 10 135 x 10 225 x 8 225 x 8
Leverage Squat Machine - 315 x 8 405 x 8 485 x 8
Alternate sets of Leg Curl, Leg Extension and Calf Raisies
Single Leg Extension 50 x 8 60 x 12 60 x 12
Single Leg Curls 50 x 8 60 x 8 60 x 8
Standing Calf Raises - 315 x 12 315 x 10 315 x 10
God Bless All.

Words don't do the justice that those pics do. All I can say is "Wow!". 43! Heck look like 23 to me (ok maybe you have to put a ball cap on). Definately lock that bench down. That surely doesn't help any. Nice volumous leg work!

I was just about to say that...you're freakin' jacked in that second pic...good for you man! Definitely get that bench nailed down...even if it doesn't become a safety hazard...I'd bet dollars-to-doughnuts that your body's CNS detects that slight instability and dials back on your available power ever so slightliy.

Happy B-day Chancey. Hope you have a great day and a safe trip if traveling. I was leaning more toward the spray-on-stuff instead of the baseball cap.. ;D Hope you still have your hair at 39. ;D I notice most guys at my age either shave it or cover it. Guess I will have to dazzel them with my body instead! I was pretty shocked when I went back to look at my old pictures. Still not sure it has all sunk in yet. But, it's only forward from here. Jim

* Question?
Does it help overall strength to weigh 5 to 10 lbs. over competition weight during off season and then trim down 1 to 2 months prior to meet?
My thought is that you could lift more at the heavier weight and get used to it. Then have a controlled loss prior to meet - (Knock off some fat percent) - so you don't loose as much strength. Hopefully none!
There is no meet close to me scheduled at this point. So don't know if this is a good strategy.

Some very strong arms. As far as the weight of being within 5 or 10 pounds that is fine, that is exactly what I do and seems not to really effect me during competition time.

I agree with Donald. Most folks can dry out for a few days and make weight for 5-10 pounds. If you have weigh ins the night before, it gives you plenty of time to get rehydrated. But if you space it out over several weeks to a month, you have a lower chance of affecting your strength and stamina. And to be realistic, me included, most powerlifters wouldn't lose too terribly much by shedding 5 pounds or so.....cough cough...... (I weighed 188 last night.....)
:')
God Bless.

Slow count dead lifts, that sounds very difficult, I might have to abuse myself and try that. Explain to me exactly what it is, is it you slowly pull it up or do you hold it for awhile when you pull in all the way up?

Don,
It is real easy to explain these. On just about everything I will use a 4 to 8 second count system (On the down movement). I use them mainly after I am trashed on something.
So in this case (deadlift) I would do the lift under strick conditions. Normal lift to lockout. Then 4 second count to the floor. Normal lift to lockout. Then 4 second count to the floor.
I use these on a number of exercises. Works great on leg ext. and leg curl, Squat, Deadlift, Arm Curl and Triceps eat it up..
It really forces the muscles to work hard and forces you to hit those sleeper muscles well. Main muscle groups fatigue and then everything else kicks in.
I will guarantee a burn on this one.
Hope this helps.

Yikes, that’s a years worth of curling for me – very strong and impressive. I bet you would do well in the strict curl. I like how you moved your grip around. It reminds me of Arnold talking about how he always changed his grip a little to hit his biceps at different angles. My dang ole bicep has been hurting me since the beginning of the year. I am anxious to get back to my one set a week. ;D

I'll second what Chancey said...that's a lotta curling! Very nice triceps extensions as well. Strong. My wife is after to me to do more curling because my arms are all triceps...I told her the sole purpose of my biceps was to be a stabilizer for the bench, not for her "eye candy"...I got the Hairy Eyeball for that!

Wow, I must have hit my arms really good last night. I could hardly sleep my forearms were cramping up all night and still this morning.
Chancey - I hope you work through your bicep problem. Mine seems to be my right hip. I think we all have our hurdles to work through. I would love to do strict curl. Not many meets in my area this year. Hopefully that will change - year is still young.
Toolpod - that is just too funny. I about fell off my chair laughing. I can tell you are a powerlifter - you don't shave it.
Thanks for the support everyone.
