Very much agreed. That is some impressive front squatting, no less putting it up fatigued. Great work!!

The FS went up like clockwork. The MP last set was a grinder but steady. The 295 DL I did the first 4 with a hook (clean) grip. The forth I started to lose my grip on the way down. Last was mixed (sumo) grip, no problem. 105 JM was a real grinder.

205 bench was slow but the last rep stalled half way up and I had to grind out every inch to lock out. 245 squat was tough but OK. The 8 @ 180 went like clockwork Rows are fine.

Wow...front squats are just Evil! There's something impressive about summing your workouts by Tonnage!

I preffer FSs. The back squat pinches my shoulders and makes me whine like a school girl if I don't use a pad. I suppose I'll build up some callous after a while. I do the FS with a butterfly grip rather that the Olympic clean grip because I lack the flexibility in my wrists and the motivation to do something about it.
Tonnage is much more impressive than the term volume I used previously. I changed it because it is the proper term for combined weight lifted according to some unnamed person in the past that everyone else has followed.
BTW Toolpad, The horse in my avatar that broke my wife's foot is a Shire stallion. He stood about 19+ hands and weighed around 2500 #.

Inclines went well. The last squat sethad to be stopped at three because I just had no jucie left and form was suffering. I went and finished the last two reps and added the extra rep just because I wanted to get it done. JM press got ugly on the last set also. Just went slow and struggled to keep form..

Nice lifting. You were born to squat. Your acting very prudent and like a seasoned PLer in your approach and listening to your body. Letting it all hang out and staying healthy is sometimes a fine line in this sport. Keep up the hard work.

I did some overhead squats today just for grins. Worked up to 2 @ 135. I used to do these a lot but my shoulders got to where they ached all the time.
I restarted the dreaded food log at home to try and find out if I'm not progressing as well because I'm training too hard, not eating enough or just wilting in the heat. It just really bugs me when I can't finish a workout.
I don't think it's the training as I've stretched it out with alternating weeks. The food thing may be a factor. Today I stuffed myself and fell short by 400 calories. The building I have my gym set up in is my equipment shed which we affectionately call the Tractor Chapel because we had three weddings in it but I digress. The building is not air conditioned nor has any windows. I sweat like a hog in there. Monday while squatting my feet were trying to cramp up. That could be the heat or the nutrition. I guzzle Gatorade while I'm working but I may have to add a multivitamin.

Solid work. Those holds will help big time.
I think the heat in the tractor chapel (love it!) has a lot to do with it.

In 2003 two of our daughters wanted to be married on our farm. We had scheduled the construction of a 40x60 steel building to be completed before the weddings so we could use it for the receptions or as an alternative if the weather turned ugly. It was finished the day before the first wedding and all went as planed. One of our friends was so impressed with how well the wedding went that the following year she and her now husband were married on the farm and the building served as a reception hall once more.
We had a long standing group of friends that would visit for dinner after church on Sunday. They are responsible for the name Tractor Chapel. They presented us with a magnetic sign in John Deer green and yellow to put on the door. Since that time we refer to it simply as The Chapel. I have since made a portion of the Chapel into my gym.
Now when I can make reference to the Chapel, you all can know what I'm talking about.

Lysimacus,
Forgive me if I've missed it, but what do you do to warm-up before your 5x5 workouts?
Thanks.

Williamson,
I do some hip mobility exercises and jump rope and then go right to it. Many times I've been to work before I workout. As you can see from my avatar will warm me up real good. Today is a good case. At 7:30 this morning I was holding the back end of some big old mare in my lap. My wife calls it my 800# half squat.
The thing about the 5x5 that I like is the starting weights are light enough to not require too much warm up.

Dropped the bar on the fifth rep of the 250 FS. I lened forward on the way up because I was tired. Nice thing about the FS, when I lose form the bar comes off so I don't get hurt. Raelly had to work on the 210 bench.

I'll second Doug, LSM...Injuries are much to be praised in not getting one!
Likewise on the tonnage!
Do you notice any impact on your DB rows after the bench work?

|
|
Post by lysimacus on Aug 6, 2007 13:14:32 GMT -5
Toolpad,
I've always done my rows after the bench so I can't say either way if there is an effect. I do them to balance the push of the bench with a pull. Rather than have a day for each movement or doing an upper and lower body split I aim for a whole body workout with movements that oppose each other.

Had to grind the last set of MPs. Last one stalled halfway but I put all I had into it and got it up. The 310 deads were all done with much groaning and gnashing of teeth. I may cut the top weight on the Jms because I just strugggle to keep form while getting them up. It will be better to do more reps at less weight with good form.
