Military Press or Overhead press as many now call it. I'm old and set in my ways.

Nice work Lysimicus. You're smart about your form. I have a few lifts that I'm dropping the weight, and working on form. Actually, it's pretty much all about form, isn't it?
Awesome volume.

Echo Toolpod on the gnashing! Way to grind it out Big L!
Nice workout by the way! Even if you drop the weight to work on form you can keep the tonnage up where you like it, which appears to be in the 6 ton range.....
God Bless!

Bad workout. The heat has finally taken enough of a toll that I have begun to notice. I confused the numbers with the BP and FS, miss loaded bars and had no energy. I also dumped the bar on a FS that I should have lifted. Way past time for a "Progressive over-de-load" (thanks dopar66) . I had scheduled one for week after next but I think it may be time to start now.

Thanks Scorpion.
Working in the heat has taken a bit of a toll on more than just me. My neighbor told me this morning that he woke up face down in the corn field after just a short while of working in the sun. I'm going to cut down the workout for a week or so until my body gets caught up.
Because of this heat I've been thinking a lot about our citizens who have volunteered to serve is in defending our freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq. The heat there is more relentless and brutal that what I and my neighbors have dealt with. Add to it the equipment and inherent danger that is their job and I can't complain about the small inconvenience of altering my schedule. Hats off the men and women of our armed forces. May God watch and keep them .

August 15
Weight 219
Pull ups 4x3 @ BW
Front squats 1x10 @ 175 2x8 @ 175
Tonnage 7190
Another light one. All day I was dragging. Thought of skipping it but just went to it before bed. I've been unhappy with my pull up strength. I had hoped the high pulls and rows would bring the numbers up but I'm still stuck ay 3. I guess the solution is as Pavel suggests, start doing pull ups.

Pavel's pretty clevery guy! I like Sean's attitude but sometimes the only thing that will cure a broke down body is rest. Your next workouts will be more productive and you will be good for another run of abuse.

Piggyback: once the heat breaks you'll have it all come back together for you. Until then, just make sure you stay hydrated in all this heat! Having the preacher say "Yeah, but he could squat 350" in your eulogy won't do your training a darn bit of good!
God Bless!

Thanks guys,
I agree Dopar. Nothing more useless than a good looking corpse. ..well maybe an ugly one. I'm looking forward to my trip to SC to see my Mother-in-law. Should be a restful time since there is nothing to do in Camden. I take that back, there is the button museum.

Remember: He who fights and runs away lives to run away another day. Sometimes you just have to let the iron 'think' that it won.
The heat has been brutal. Enjoy your break and get back to it later.

You guys are so right I just can't keep out of The Chaple. Which brings me to today.
August 20
Weight 221
I did an accessory workout today to get a feeling on how I felt. I decided to go on a light session for a couple of weeks because I was making mistakes in following the workout schedule and loading the weights on the bar evenly but the most telling was I could not jump rope more than six or seven on a row when 100+ had been routine.
Jump rope 1 min
3 Bw pull ups
Repeat 4 times.
2x10@ 50 flat DB press
I was pleased that the jump rope went smooth with only two interruptions. The Pus went good also. I haven't been doing DB presses and these were surprisingly difficult. Not wanting to push it too much yet I called it a day.
I am leaving for SC on Thursday so I'll be just walking around aimlessly for three days, oh and working the eating muscle.

It's good to be back from SC. By the grace of God I have not gained any weight!
I'm tanned rested and ready to put muscle to metal.
I am in to process of moving the gym equipment from The Chapel to the garage. I need the room in The Chapel for work and such. Not having the weights there will also help me resist the temptation to workout rather than work. Just for grins I'm carrying everything the 200' uphill to the garage. Surprisingly the cage was not as difficult as the lat machine. The squat rack will be taken apart and moved one piece at a time however. My guess is there are about 1700# of plates and dumbbells. I'm halfway there so far.
Tomorrow, back to the 5x5.

August 27
Weight 219
Bench Press 5@ 100 rest 60s 5@ 130 5@ 155 rest 120s 5@ 180 rest 180s 4@ 205
Front Squat 5@ 120 rest 60s 5@ 150 5@ 185 rest 120s 5@ 215 rest 180s
DB Row each arm 5@ 50 rest 60s 5@ 60 5@ 75 rest 120s 5@ 85 rest 180s 5@ 100
Half get-ups 3x10 @ 20
Tonnage 9445
This was an improvemnet over the July 23 workout. I cut the FS after the 215 because I felt a twing in the left groin. Just getting back from a break I don't need to hurt myself. The Half get-ups really burnt the abs.

Howdy! Nice comeback workout! Good call on the squatting. I had a good friend who pulled him a high one, didn't take care of it, and it herniated..... Don't want that to slow you down!
Glad you had a nice trip!
God Bless.

Thanks guys, it's nice to be back. I'm still moving equipment however. The only thing left is the squat rack and about 600# of plates. I did use the truck to move the stall mats. They are just too unwieldly to drag up to the garage.
