Thanks, Sauble! From you, that is a compliment!
You can take this to the bank: with the chains, I have every intention of getting that sucker off me as quick as I can! Racing the chains? Earnhardt #3 would have been proud!
:')
Thanks again.
God Bless.

Friday: DEADLIFT day!
For some twisted reason, I enjoy the heck out of deadlifts, and actually look forward to them. Strange.......
BWT: 179
135x10 225x5 315x2 405x1 455x1 500 x 2 singles
I was blessed today! I went for a third, but the fatigue had set in. In no way am I disappointed with 2 singles! That's the most I've done in the gym, I'll usually call it a day after one rep with that kind of weight!
Our school is on fall break until Wednesday, so I won't post any more workouts until then. Hopefully upon returning I'll also be able to tell yall about that huge buck that ran into my arrow. :') Oh wait, it's black powder season......
God Bless.

Thanks, guys. Vic, I've about given up on sleep, it takes too much time out of my day. :')
I was away from the computer for a few days, so here are Monday and Tuesday's workouts.
Monday: Bench day warmups 250x1 275x1 290 4 singles
Declines 275 3x5
Inclines 185x3 225x3
Tuesday: squat day The only reason I went heavy this week instead of deloading was the squats. Wanted to do a huge CNS smasher. Warmups knee wraps 475x1 500x1
Blessed!
Our internet is strangely slow today so it may take a while for me to catch up on everyone's most recent workouts. Please exercise your patience muscle with me until our internet is back working properly.
God Bless.

A couple days of not posting and I thought maybe Doug is trapped under 600lbs somewhere. I’ve squatted and I can’t get up. You’re a positive to this forum and I am sure you have helped many people with your words. When your not signing autographs at the worlds I would like to shake your hand. Seriously, nice work on those singles!

Dang it, boy. Nice work. You keep this up and I'll have to go to Vermont just to carry your bag for you.
Good to have you back online. Been kinda quite around here.

Yall are too kind. I really appreciate that. I look at yall as my training partners, and that's what training partners do is encourage each other. I just greatly appreciate yall's kind words and now I'M the one being encouraged!
Thanks again, and God Bless.

Man. It's de-load week, so I did "light" squats today. Let me tell you, it wasn't a "no effort" day. After warmups, I went to 250 plus the chains. I did rock bottom paused squats, 5x3. MAN that burned! The chains were all there! I appreciate all the input I've gotten from everyone about them, they have become an integral part of my lifting.
God Bless.

I must first express my tremendous appreciation to 3Speed. He's given me a ton of info about working out in general, and using chains to maximize their effect, and some tips on some other exercises. Tuesday in a phone conversation he gave me some incredible pointers on doing floor presses in the Smith machine. I had given up on floor presses due to the "fitness center" setup where I work out. Also, the exercise I used to use I liked to call "tricep hammers", he gave me a tip on using them differently as well. Here's how it went. I don't usually post a full de-load workout, but today was really short so it won't take much space.
warmed up shoulders
close-grip smith machine floor presses with 30# chains 135x10 185x5 225 2x5
regular grip, same setup 275 2x3
New and improved tricep hammers (sorry, can't think of the name right now...not enough mt dew yet....) 50x10 (much better feel than doing them the old way)
30 minutes
A GREAT learning workout!
MANY Thanks, 3Speed!
God BLess.

I just looked through your log pages here Doug. I can see that you are a very impressive deadlifter. 500+ raw at 181 is sick! You can squat even with me too and I am 50 lbs bigger than you! Very impressive.
What is your best raw meet total so far?

Thanks for the props, 3Speed. :')
Tom, in August I came this close (hold your thumb and pointer finger about 1/4" apart) to finally hitting the 1300 barrier. I had, um, depth problems on my second squat so went for the same weight on my third. (I went too deep.....couldn't get that darn weight back up....)
:')
I ended up with a 1290, and was blessed beyond measure!
I have no intentions with trying to hang with your bench though, Tom. Your bench is very close to my squat..... And since when do you outweigh me 50 pounds? Last November you were a heavy 198 weren't you? HI must really be cooking some good stuff! Need a dinner guest? :')
Seriously, you heading to Currituck for the bench meet?
God Bless.

1290 is very good for a 181 raw guy. I am not 198 any more! Got hungry and discovered ice cream.(moose tracks is my favorite) I was fighting to stay 198. When I met you I had to starve myself to stay in that wgt class and it drained my strength. I decided to not fight it any more. I am fighting to stay in the 220 class now. I can just cut out the extra stuff and stay 220. Much easier. Started squatting and my bench took off. Go figure. Maybe you full meet guys know something after all.

Yeah, I think I'm going to find out soon that I'm actually a 198 in disguise.... It's getting tough. I can still hit 175 regularly, but it's requiring that I reduce my super secret supplement, mountain dew, too much. :')
You know, I bet if Dennis Cieri would start squatting heavy, he'd get over that 525 hurdle.....
HAHAHAHA!!!!! Sometimes I make myself laugh. :')
Catcha later, Tom.
God Bless.

Two words for today: LEARNING EXPERIENCE!
I had read Ray Benemerito talking about doing 10 deadlifts with 60% and no belt. 3 Speed had mentioned doing 10 reps with chains. I thought "Well, there's two guys who probably know what they're talking about, I'll combine both ideas!" Sounds good so far....
Deadlifts w/ 30# chains
135x10 225x5 315x10 (60% set, stopped here)
Decline crunches: 2x20 w/50# dumbell
First lesson on deadlifting with chains: figure out how to keep the chains from getting under the weights BEFORE you start deadlifting......
Second lesson on deadlifting with chains: DON'T! After about the 6th rep, I was head rushing like crazy. After the 10th I felt like I had done a mega squat workout. And the lockout weight was only 345! Woozy? Yeah! Fried? You betcha!
Can't WAIT to do it again! Gonna jump up the pounds next time. It'll be a few weeks, but man I am excited!
Yall have a wonderful and blessed weekend!
