2 weeks? I certainly hope it works out for you! I can't speak from experience, but all I hear is that it takes a while to learn a new shirt.
On the flip side, with you hitting 575x2 in your "old" shirt.....well, (insert favorite positive speculation here) but you ought to nail it!

Bench 135x10 225x10 315x2 48 Katana On All 3 Board 405x2 455x2 500x2 550x2 575x2 590x2 600x2(second rep was a little uneven at lockout, nervous spotter touched the bar)
DB Floor Press 100x5 100x10
The shirt is incredibly tight. 600 was very managable. I am debating on what shirt to wear to Jeff's meet. I'll probably open in the F6 and try a second or third attempt in the Katana. I would like to get the sleeves shortened. They are rolled under 4-5". I did manage to stretch the shirt some. On my first set spotters had to fold my left hand back underneath the bar. By the end of the workout I didn't have that problem. Thank you to everyone for the spots especially Kevin.

Randy, I saw you got the Katana 48...what is the recommended size for you? Reason I ask, I'm doing a few shirted comps this year. I wanted an F6, but wasn't sure about the size selection, they offer the three levels of sizing, I was thinking about taking the middle: "training and comp" fit. I want something with pop, but not so tight that I can't put it on by myself with an open velcro back. I did my first shirted comp this morning, the APF PA state meet in Pittsburgh, in a borrowed Karin Double-Denim. I had originally planned to open raw at 405 and then shirt up for lifts 2 and 3. Since this was the *fourth* time I've worn a shirt, period, I decided instead to do all 3 shirted because of my lack of precision. The unnaturally low groove in the denim just throws me off. I blasted 440 up on my first lift, and then went on to miss lifts 2 and 3 at 475 because I screwed up and got out of the groove too low. Doubly aggravating because I got 475 in competition form a week ago. Triply so, because my raw max is 450...so you could say I got a -10 pounds out of the shirt! I ended up in 1st place (uncontested) in the 198's...so to make a long story short, I was hoping that an F6 or katana would have a more natural bar path than the KK denim, is that the case?

Bench 135x10 225x10 315x2 Katana On 48 405x2 (3 board) 500x1 (2 board/very hard to touch) 550x1 (2 board/very hard to touch)
F6 On 48 All full range 500x0 (to low on stomach) 500x1 (some uneven ext. but locked out even) 500x0 (went without a belt, somehow I wasn't able to touch my chest, locked the weight out easily though)
Close Grip 315x2 335x2 355x2 365x2
I am 1 week away from the meet and still do not have a solid idea of what to open with. I have used the F6 in three meets and benched at least 500 everytime. The shirt is tighter than before because I am about 8 lbs. heavier. My raw strength is the best it's been in years, so it probably makes sense to open with about 515-520. 520 would be a meet PR. I have nothing to lose at this meet, the decision has been made 520 will be my opener.
Attempts 1st 520 2nd 550 3rd 575-600 in the Katana
Thanks again to everyone for the spots. Thanks Kevin for the great lift offs, and thank you John for judging.

Wow! 365x2 close grips? Great day in the morning! You must have triceps the size of a small island nation! That is ridiculous strength! Randy, I can't wait till I get to see you bench in a raw meet somewhere!
1 week to go! You are READY. That is some strong lifting, with killer PRs a real possibility!
GO GET 'EM, BIG GUY!
God Bless. Doug P.

Savoy Meet Wrap Up bw 240 (went with the 48 F6)
1st 520 (had to pull it to my stomach to touch/ no lift) 2nd520 (same thing) 3rd 530 (quick on the way down/ just as quick on the way up ) 4th 550 (6" off the chest it stalled)
I should have done a better job of adjusting my attempts. My bw is up about 9 lbs. , which means the gear is tighter. I did find a new opener though, 530. I think the 550 would have gone if I wouldn't have wasted the first two attempts.
Last but certainly not least THANK YOU to all the members of Illini Power past and present. My lifting would not be where is today without the help and encouragement of this great team. See you Wednesday!

Bench 135x10 225x10 315x10
BB Floor Press 315x2 365x2 375x2
Close Grips 315x2 335x2 335x2 335x2
Bicep curls 70x15 70x15
Shoulders and elbows are a little tender from Saturday. I will do every other week in the shirt. The Granite City meet is next. Hope to get another crack at 550. I will open at 530 and go 550 on my second attempt. The Savoy meet definetly showed me where my attempts need to be in the shirt. Thanks to the Wednesday crew for the spots.

Wow, Randy, that is one hoss of a workout! Incredible numbers! What's the date for the Granite City meet? Looking at your workout, assuming it's raw, looks like you have a pretty good chance at the 550! (315x10??? That's CRAZY!!!)

Bench 135x10 225x10 315x2
48 Katana On/All 3 Board Tonight 405x1 495x1 585x1 605x1 615x1 (15 lb. PR)
Close Grip Bench 315x2 335x2 355x2 365x2 (Probably could have gone for a PR, but felt this was a good place to stop to conserve the shoulders)
DB Floor Press 100x10 (felt like doing a little more)
Good workout. Looking at getting a raw PR next week, 365x5.

Good idea on the CGBP to save the shoulders.

10-4-06
Bench 135x10 225x10 315x2 365x3 (I was hoping to get 5) 365x3 365x2
BB Floor Press 315x2 365x2 385x2 390x2
Standing Push Press 135x5 155x5 175x5
Preacher Curls 95x10 95x10
Rehab and out.
Since I have been getting 365 for 2 in close grips at the end of the workout , I thought 365 for 5 was realistic at the beginning of the workout. Apparently my calculations were wrong. Next week is my last bench workout before the meet. I am debating between a new board press PR (in the Katana, a shirt I will not be wearing at the meet) or doing something close to full range in the F6. The Savoy meet showed me where my opener needs to be, I don't feel like I need to practice the opener. I also feel that going full range at his point would stress the shoulders too much. Two meets in 5 weeks is not something I plan to make a habit of doing.

Randy, for your push press, do you come up of the floor or from the rack high?

I don't use a shirt, so take this for what it's worth. I don't know if I'd worry about tinkering with gear I wasn't planning on using, this close to a meet. that's just me, an un-shirted bencher.
I sure hope you knock out a killer PR at the meet! That will ROCK!
God Bless.

D, I think your right, I'll use the F6 for some 1-2 board work and call it a day. Also, I appreciate your positive comments.

225x28

This was my last bench before the meet. 550 will be my second attempt. This will be a huge step for me. I know my triceps can handle the weight, I just need to get the shirt set correctly.

Good luck at the meet, man! Bust that PR!!!
Are you going to stick with the F6?
When I get a shirt, I was heavily leaning toward the F6. Mostly because they ask for your arm measurements. I'm kinda skinny for a PL-er 198/5'10"+, so the Inzers don't fit me that well, right chest size is way too small for my arms.
Doug is right, don't add another variable this close to a meet. *Especially* with shirts. My equipment experience is limited, but any kind of variation makes it easier to screw up.

10-21-06 Granite City Meet (bdy. wgt. 242) 1st attempt 529 (tough getting down/good lift) 2nd attempt 551 (came down easy, got it 1/2 way up) 3rd attempt 551 (same results)
Finished with 529, best lifter and the Leroy Marsh Award for coaching. We qualified two kids for the high school nationals and set a lot of new PR's. Other than missing 551 twice it was a great day. The meet was extremely well run. Thanks to Ben and Laramie for the help.

Good idea, going light! GIve those shoulders a rest, I mean you went for 551 twice!
Nice workout for light. I've never personally called 275 "light" on a bench day, but I'll take your word for it.

Back on the bench just 4 days after a meet.....and Doug says I push hard.
Gotta agree with Doug. Good idea to ease those shoulders back into it.
Great job at the meet. Not nearly as much glory in training and coaching but it sure feels good. Thank you for helping our next generation of lifters.
