9-03-07 Squats-(bwt 326) Raw (just a belt) Power rack- unable to get a wide grip on the bar so these end up being high shoulder squats. 135x10 335x10 425x5 425x5 425x5 425x5 525x1 was going for two but the bar being so high, as I came up it pushed me forward slightly. It took a lot to pull it back in and stand up with it. I guess I could slow down the drop to get more control out of the bottom. Add 5lbs on next squat day 9-09-07 Pin Pulls in power rack (bar at knees) 500x1 600x1 650 bar rolled out of my left hand at just about the top. Can't use chalk at this gym. 600x1 4 set of 5 Leg Curls 210 Rear delts 50 DB Shoulders press (machine) 260 Shrugs 495 U.R. Rows 140 Pull Downs front 220 T- Rows 135 Seated Rows 220 Elliptical 32 min. Situps

Nice workout. Sucks about the chalk. I had the same problem at my gym and I threatened to buy out my membership. I was told that if I kept it discreet and didn't make a mess, I could use it. Might be worth a private conversation with management.

Thanks guys.....I'm working toward the Arnold Sports Festival in March 2008. I'm hoping to make the final list of lifters to lift at the Arnold. It should be a great Raw SHW class.

Echo 3Speed. Put the chalk blocks in tupperware and show 'em you aren't going to throw a fine powdery layer over everything, and they may be willing to work with you. Mention the show in March and how cool it would be if a guy that trained at their gym did really well, and they may make an exception for you. :')
NICE workout despite the bar issues!
God Bless.

I do the tupperware thing for my chalk but when you lift on black mats it doesn't take a lot. I don't want to mess up a good thing because a lot of gyms don't like powerlifters at all. I am the only powerlifter he lets in the gym anyway. On deadlift day I have to go to another gym so I can use the chalk for my deadlift. Plus without the chalk you get a true test on your grip.

Chancey, Thanks, as far as goals go, I'm just going to take it one step at a time. I would like to be around for a long time. I've had a 2000lb total using equipment in the USAPL at the age of 42. I was on the World Master team for the USAPL. Now, I want to see what I can do raw at age 49.

That's one big, strong old man! Nice to have you aboard.
My chalk story: I used to lift at YMCA and couldn't bring chalk into the weight room. The gymnasts, however, had barrels of the stuff in their room. Naturally, I'd just sneak into their area, chalk up, and walk back. I got a lot of strange looks from the gymnastics moms. Looking at the situation now, it seems like one of the big benefits of knowing the gym owner, myself.

Great. It's alway nice to have experience around. Looking forward to your log. Have you been training straight since that 2000 total? If so have you maintained strength? I'm curious at almost 40 how long I can expect to see increases in my strength.
I've yet to try it but they make spray chalk. I'd have a problem lifting in that gym just based on principle.

I'm curious at almost 40 how long I can expect to see increases in my strenght. I've yet to try it but they make spray chalk. I'd have a problem lifting in that gym just based on principle. After I did the 2000lbs total, I found out that I am a diabetic. So, I went from a BW of 350lbs down to 295lbs. Plus I took almost a year and a half off from lifting to get my health problems worked out. So, when I started lifting again in July of 2005 I went raw. I was starting all over again from the bottom. It has all come back with a lot of hard work. I work on keeping my BW at 320-325. I add 5lbs to my squats and bench every work out unless I can't get my 4 sets of 5 reps. This work out has been good to me for a very long time. I also lift alone most of the time so I have to watch everything. Yes, if you lift on a regular schedule I see no reason why you wouldn't see increases in strenght for a long time. If I can be any help just let me know........ Stat Strong Jim P

Its funny you say that because I say the same thing to the guy I lift with twice a month. He is 50 something years old and he gives me 110% very time we workout. So. I know how you feel.

That's pretty hard hitting all those reps and going up and doing that heavy single. Nice twist with the pause.
Wow on the volume!4 sets of 5 on all that stuff. That's all my accessory work for the last month...and I wish I was joking.

Thanks......This work out has been good to me for a long time. Its a great way to stay in shape. If I'm always working toward that heavy single. That heavy single becomes easy the closer I get to it. My 19year old son has been lifting with me for the last month. It took me about three to three and a half hours to finish that work out. But with him lifting with me its been cut in half. He likes trying to knock Dad around but Dad can hold his own. I get to bust him on Squat/Deadlift day. And that is tomorrow.

That is cool your son lifts with you. I am trying to "grow" my own training partners two. We have 3 girls and 1 boy. Might need a bigger gym.

I think I'm going to let him get his feet wet in October for his first contest. The Raw Dogs are having a contest nearby so we might get him in it.
