I seem to be running 290 lately. Have been using creatine and putting the protein to me the last 6 weeks so it's been a challenge to get my weight down. So, I'm a wannabe 275 pounder. The lifting is easy. The diet not so easy.

You can say that again about the diet. I try to lift in the 198's but 220's are sounding better every meet. It gets tougher and tougher to make weight.

Dang, Chancey, why don't you rep out with 340 one time? AWESOME benching C-man!
Joe Mazza made a great statement in this month's PLUSA. He was talking bench, obviously, and said he feels strongest at 175 bwt. Keep in mind he competes at 165 mostly. If you're strong as you are now at 290, unless the doctor says lose weight, I must ask, why lose weight? Your gains are EXPLODING right now, I'd say very comparable to BigLifter's. You said it yourself, why mess with success?
You da man!
God Bless!

Doug makes a great point Chancey...if you're doing good, why worry about the BWT unless you have to?
If it ain't broke...don't fix it!

In total agreement here. Unless you have your sights set on a specific goal or record in the 275's, ride that wave of awesomeness right where you're at. Even in the 319's, those are incredible #'s your putting up. My view is that I will continue to compete where I'm at until it gets too unreasonable, from either a bodyfat or just dieting down perspective, to make the weight class anymore. Then it's time to bump up a notch.

I agree... unless your feeling worn out or tired from extra weight... go with it and get as strong as you can.... If anything, become a full 308lber Try to get at least 1.5 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight, if your not already... So that puts you about at least 435 grams of protein a day or in the pall park... Just my .02 cents All Glory to God.

I have a friend always telling me the same thing about my weight. He thinks I should embrace it. I just figured I could be more competitive at 275 and I carry a certain amount of useless weight around the midsection so this always seemed like something I could do without losing strength. I know I am doing it for myself but lets be honest we all peak at the rankings. But if it means being stronger & slightly heavier than I guess I will be slightly heavier. Boy if I put on another 10 pounds I bet that would push my lifts up quite a bit. I’ve been going with 1 gram of protein per body weight. Maybe I will try 1.5 gram per.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Funny Icy Hot story. I’ve been using the stuff in the tubes. Works great but I go through it to quick. So, last time I went shopping I noticed they had some that came in a jar, like Vaseline. So I got it thinking more is better. The first time I put it on I didn’t get that initial hot feeling so I started slabbing it on and because the consistency is slightly different you really have to work it in. Well I had it all over my chest, shoulders, my back, and up and down my arms. About 5 minutes later that stuffed kicked in! OOOOOOO! I was lit up like a nuclear reactor. I believe I may have been glowing. So, learn from my mistakes folks.

Hahaha! I know what you mean...when I hurt my back 4 weeks ago I took some tylenol/codeine after I got home for the pain, and then had the wife put the icy hot on my back. For like 10 minutes...didn't feel anything...and then it got kinda warm and fuzzy. Nice. It was the first time I'd ever used it...i was figuring that maybe Doug was overstating its powers Well... The next night, I didn't take the tylenol/codeine...only took a couple advil for the back pain because it felt better, and had the missus put the same Icy Hot on. She rubbed it in good with a paper towel because I said I didn't feel much before. It only took about 60 seconds for me to realize that tylenol/codeine really is one Hades of a painkiller after all...my back lit up like a Christmas tree. My wife asked me why I started writhing around on the couch

Week 5 Deadlift Deadlift 135 x 5 225 x 5 315 x 3 405 x 1 500 x 1, 5 sets (Belt, No Chalk) Romanian DL (start from floor) 315 x 8, 3 sets Shrugs 405 x 5 495 x 5, 2 sets Skipped last weeks DL. It was a speed day. I was faced with the dilemma of picking between speed and heavy. I was in the mood for heavy. Speed could be a little better and the last 3rd sometimes a bit of grind. 3rd set I ripped right off the floor and it flew up – best set. Mental prep was weak until then (I literally have to go through a mental checklist – don’t we all?). I found the 315 a good weight today on the RDLs for maintaining good form throughout.

Thank you gentleman.
Week 6 Squats/Bench Day 2
Had to get two in for one because between Fri & Sat I had about 18 hrs of moving in. I hate moving stuff.
Squat
135 x 5 225 x 5 315 x 3 365 x 1 410 x 4 (belt here out) 500 x 10 sec, walkout 410 x 4 500 x 10 sec, walkout 430 x 3 500 x 10 sec, walkout 430 x 3
Pause Squats
360 x 4 380 x 3
I think these went better than last week (energy & psyche) but I cannot bury 410+ for reps to the dirt like I can 365. I’m sure for one I can but I’m going to do what I think is 1-2 inches below parallel. I’ve done nothing but get stronger at this exercise so I will be going dirt on that 410 for reps soon enough! Side note – next weeks walkouts will be plus 75 instead of 90. Pretty heavy on the back - you guys who put 600+ on your back truly amazes me (so do you under 200 guys going 500 on me).
Rot. Cuff Prehab
Incline Bench
45 x 14 135 x 12 185 x 12 225 x 12 225 x 10 (Assdragidous Setting In)
Barbell Rows (to sternum)
135 x 12 225 x 10 275 x 6
No heavy tri work because I don’t want to ruin Tues Bench day being 2 days out. For the rest of this cycle, due to the 90%+ work on my bench, I will be moving away from the heavy inclines for 5s in lieu 10-12s. Trying to maintain health even though I despise high reps.

First things first, since I didn't go online this weekend. OUTSTANDING deads, Chancey! That's how you grip it and rip it! I thought i felt the earth shaking a little, must have been that 500 bouncing off the floor for reps! You're +1 dew for the deads!
Squats, good call with the rock bottom on the 410. Hanging around the 75-85% with lower reps and killing form, depth, explosion with that kind of weights, the actual poundage and percentage doesn't matter as much as long as you're in that range. So stick with the 365 until you're ready for the bump, then start burying the 410+ every time. And I gotta give props for doing the rock bottom pauses in the same workout..... and echo 3Speed..... fully......
"225 x 10 (Assdragidous Setting In)"
I spewed dew. You get a karma.
:')
God Bless!

Yes! Awesome everything. Wasn't there an old post about hesitating to do a meet because the squats weren't quite there?? Well, no more! Seriously.... crazy strong all-around. Much respect for that.

Week 6 Bench Rot. Cuff Prehab. Warmup Bench 45 x 20 135 x 12 185 x 5 225 x 5 275 x 3 315 x 1 Bench Alternate W/Pause Bench 340 x 4 340 x 1 Pause 340 x 4 340 x 1 Pause 355 x 3 355 x 1 Pause 355 x 4 (butt lifted a skosh on last rep - this wasn't digging down deep for the extra rep but me getting mixed up with my previous rep scheme. I guess that's a good, DOH! 355 x 1 Pause (3 count, a little smack down!) Dropped the 2B tonight in an effort to let my elbow heal up. I think I did something stupid doing shrugs? Even if I told you I didn't have it tonight you wouldn't beleive me.

Thanks guys. I hope your right Doug. You can't imagine how tempting it is for me to want to try and take those 4 plates for a ride now. This cycle will take me up to 385 - so will find out real soon how I stand. Looking forward to lifting on good equipment and getting a lift off. Anytime I've done extended benching on my own equipment I'm almost gauranteed a PR once I hit the gym.
