Hey Doug and Chancey. Thanks for being the voice of reason that I so often am deaf to. That's exactly what I needed to hear and need to do. I get so jacked up about these meets now that it's really hard to hold back. I felt it after the miss on DL's that the recovery from squats wasn't sufficient yet. Everything, even abs, felt flat. That's the only term I can use is flat; just kinda, there. I think some SLDL's are in order for next time and I'll concentrate on not falling over the edge of the overtraining cliff after all the effort that's been put in. Thanks again. These posts here are exactly what this forum is all about. Doug, I owe you a mountain dew. Chancey, let me know what your vice is, and I'll make it happen

Smart plan. Learn, adapt and overcome.
May I suggest that you drop the last deadlift workout completely. Your back will thank you for it at the meet.

Great suggestion, 3speed. With heavy DL's every week, I haven't hit the wall yet, but could see it in the distance moving toward it with the pedal to the floor. I think with about 5 weeks left, it's time to just make sure everything is solid and quit worrying about some last minute strength gains. This still adds up to about 100lb. more than last meet (if everything goes as planned), so not much to complain about.

I agree wholeheartedly! Pushing your low back at that intensity, breaks are in order! And a 100 pound gain from one meet to the next is nothing to sneeze at! I count it a win if I improve each lift at all! (Well, I don't really count the bench any more.....but that's a different story....) :')
Still, a solid and informed plan. Can't WAIT to see your meet results.
God Bless!

My relative new-ness shows through with some of my "180 training". I need to coin that phrase. That's where you plan something out and end up doing the complete opposite . Felt good today to do a nice easy 315.

180 plan, I get it!
Man, when you gain like that, training smart is every bit as good as training hard! Shucks, probably better because your body gets a break!
I'm going to have to give that 180 training a try......
:')
God Bless.

180 or whatever it's smart. Great road map but not built in stone. Adapt and over come as needed.

Chancey and Doug are dead right... Sometimes you have to adapt your plan to fit the fluctuations in your fitness level. I've been known to take entire weeks off if I don't feel quite right or if life is getting too hectic. You'll always benefit from rest but never from overtraining. It took me over two years to figure that out! LOL.

Excellent plan, and congratulations for forcing yourself to go light. Next week may very well amaze you! (I enjoy the heck out of your log, but not near as much as I'm going to enjoy reading your meet results!)
God Bless!

Awesome squatting, biglifter! I like the way that you were able to roll with the punches and adapt to your fluctuating strength levels. It looks like you are right on target for some big numbers in Erie!

I HEAR YA BIG LIFTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have now hit 96.59% of your projected max. Two works: That ROCKS! Last two training weeks, stay in the 80-85% range, knock out some more confidence reps, and rest rest rest that last week! (my two cents only)
I still can't get over this is only your 2nd meet, and still in your first full year competing. You are a natural! I'm going to have to figure out how to email you a mountain dew after you hit that 1230 total!
God BLess.

Biglifter: I could squat and deadlift like you, if they counted the total of two reps. Nice lifting, very strong.

BL, I agree with Dopar's 2 cents here. You should have proven to yourself that you can do this by now......no sense in risking injury this close to your competition. Stay in the 80-85% range and perfect your form. Drop the deadlift workout the week of the 18th and rest up that last week completely.
Oh...........and GO GET 'EM.

Thanks Rock and 3speed. I most certainly am heeding the advice and just didn't get a chance to modify the chart yet. I'm going to finish up the 1RM's this week and then that's it for the heavy stuff. The confidence building is a nice plus, but what I'm really going after is how to layout the attempts. Equally important, are what my weights and reps are going to be for the warm-up sets. Once it's all down on paper, 80% up 'til 7 days out.

Biglifter -- Do you do all 3 lifts on one day? Or is this split out Monday- Squats, Weds- bench, Thurs or Friday -- Deadlift.

I split it up 3x/week. Sun-Squats, Tues-BP, Thur-DL. I've made some good gains doing it this way and it keeps the overtraining to a minimum. The only change I'll probably make to the next cycle is to back off from the compound movements every week and do more closely related movements to lessen the CNS burnout. SLDL's in place of DL's, for example.

Wow, Big! To TAKE a 285 right behind the 275 is SOLID! I'm suspecting if you're fresh you are already at the 290 for a T/G bench. Excellent workouts this week hoss!
God Bless.

VERY nice squatting and deadlifting! Congrats on the PR pull... I don't know if adrenalin adds 30 pounds but I'm sure that you'll give 500 a real scare. 425 is an impressive squat for a man your size and you say you have more in you! I like to see a lifter's plan coming together nicely at just the right time.
