I love the heavy bag. Only been doing it for about 3 weeks at most, so I haven't noticed much improvment. I have noticed small improvements in my striking power but that's about it. Thanks for the compliments too!

Went to the Y with my cousin, was thinking of doing something along the lines of speed bench and heavy shoulders. This is what we did:
Military Press - 90X5,3,4 Leg Press - 135X8, 315X5,6 Pullups - BWX6 Dips - BWX8,5,3
Wasn't bad, tomorrow gunna hit football practice with my friends. So possibly some sled running, but most likely not.

Gunna start working hardcore on my vertical jump. Once I can jump to the height I'm working at with an extra 50 pounds, I'm going up in height. I liked today's workout, tomorrow is some speed work and Thursday is heavy bench day. Can't wait for that, and this weekend is SUPERBOWL!!!! Patriots all the way!

Today did some speed work, wasn't much but I was walking around all day, so my legs were hurting. But I still pulled through, talked to the coach today, so going to sign up around Monday, going for strong safety. I'm going to test my 40 this week and possibly max, but I'll probably max next week. Well, heres how my workout went:
40 yard sprints: 1st sprint - was pretty sloppy at beginning, but as usual better towards end. Estimated time: ~5.2 2nd sprint - Great start, swung my arms hard and fast, good run. Estimated time: ~4.9 3rd sprint - A little worse, but better than first run. Estimated time: ~5.1 4th sprint - Wasn't bad. Wasn't as good as second run though. Estimated time: ~5.0
10 yard sprint: 1st and only run: Was good, just trying to work on the explosion off the line.
Comments: Need to work on coming on the line. My reaction and first step is whats bad. My strides are good, just need to keep remembering to pump my arms while running. Going to find my stop watch and measure my 40 this week, so I'll have a reference to see how my training goes.

Today was a great workout.
Bench - 145X3,3,3,3 (Going to work up from a somewhat low weight) 1-armed DB Press - 35X8,8,8 CGBP - 115X6,6,6 Row - 165X5,5,5,5 Pulldowns - 90X12,12
Hit heavybag for about 15 minutes, mainly hard hits, trying to work on right hooks mainly. Did punchout at end and feeling very good now. Going to go up 10 pounds on bench(as it was very easy sets), stick with 35 on DB press for 1 more workout, go up on CGBP, rows and pulldowns. Tomorrow is heavy squats/speed DL day and I'm going to watch a basketball game with my boys later that night. Saturday are sprints and Sunday is off. SUPERBOWL. Going to see one of my dads old best friends, he would be our Godfather if my dad had to choose, but anyways gunna see him and haven't seen him for bout 3-4 years.

hey, i haven't read many logs in a while and i see you're making excellent progress! i especially like the fact that you've started jumping. my 2 cents though, i would focus on getting higher instead of the same height with weight for a while at least. i do most of my jumping on a 42'' box, and when i feel good 48'' and that's helped my squat tremendously. i did it for a while on a 36'' holding 30 lb DBs in each hand, and really had no significant carryover on the squat. i like the one arm DB press too. those are great for bench stability! keep up the good work! (oh, and GO GIANTS!!!)

Thanks. I'll drop the weight and just work on height. Hopefully this will help make me starting my position I get.
Your going for Giants? Sorry bud - Patriots winning. I would rather GB though.
EDIT: Are you sure your not black? 48'' vertical jump = HOLY Shoot!
LOL, very high vertical for a white boy, even a black boy. And who said white kids can't jump?

2/2/08 Sprints/Speed Work/DB Drills First, me and a friend played basketball. We played 21, and when I play basketball, I do stupid stuff, like run more than I need to, ect. So after that we started with running a few routes. About 15 plays and then we started our workout. Sprints:[/color] 6 50 yard sprints Comments: First 2 sprints were explosive starts then jogging/high knees and other things the rest of the way. The next 4 were sprints, some on our toes, some in different posistions(3 point, WR stance ect.) Then we threw the football a little. DB Drills:[/color] 5 50 yard drills Comments: 1st drill was a back-pedal to the 50 yard line then sprint back, I did pretty well. The second was Shuffles to the 50 yard line, then sprinting back, I also did well on this. Then the next 2 drills were back-pedals, rip and then sprint the rest of the way. The first one I did OK, didn't keep my back down most of the time, the second time Jordan(the "football god" out of us 3) kept saying go faster, so I fell. Still fun. The last one was crossover shuffling. I did pretty good till towards the end. Then we did some light jogging, LOL, actually jogging to the water fountain, getting some water and jogging to the basketball hoop. Played a game of 21 and went home. Pretty fun day, no squats today though. I'm dead tired, I'll tell you that. Edit: Forgot, after the sprints we did suicide runs. I got to the 40 yard line and quit, tryed sprinting the whole way.

oooh, no, that's not my vertical!!! (i sure wish it was!) that's what i do box jumps on. my vertical is at or around 30 inches

30 is what I'm shooting for. I should be able to dunk with a 30'' vertical. Still, your a great all around athlete it seems.

i used to be, i'm been getting a little out of shape doing powerlifitng exclusively for a while, i need to get back in shape somewhat now thati don't have a meet in the forseeable future

Duckies. I lost my bet with my dad. Next week I guess I have to bring my bathing suit, gunna be washing my dads truck. Duckies you Patriots.
Anyways, I got a workout in today:
Cable Crunches - 55X15, 70X10, 80X5, 55X20 Planks - 45X30sec, 20sec Wood Chops(Didn't feel right) - 45X8 Then a VERY good heavy bag session. Really worked on my uppercuts, which are coming along VERY well. My brother heard the strikes from inside the house.
Tomorrow is Heavy DL/Light(Speed) Squat.

Duckies, these were my stats and goals:
Height - 5' 10'' Weight - ~165 Arms - 13 3/4 Chest - 42 Thighs - 21 1/2 Calves - 14 1/2 Bench - 180 TNG, ~165 P Squat - 240 Par, 205 ATG Deadlift - 330
Goal Stats:
Weight - ~175-180 Arms - 14 1/4 Chest - 43 1/2 Thighs - 22 1/4 Calves - 15 Bench - 210 TNG, 185-190 P Squat - 260 Par, 225 ATG Deadlift - 405
My current stats are:
Weight - ~170-175 Arms - 14'' Chest - 43 1/4 Thighs - 22 1/4 Calves - 143/4 - 15 Bench - 195 TNG, 175-180 Paused Squat - 250 Parallel, 205-210 ATG Deadlift - ~385
So I should be close to my goals by then. Everything is going along well. Thanks for remembering my birthday and reminding me of my goals.

Bench - (Warmup - BarX10) 155X3,3,3 PR! DB Press - 35X8,8,8 CGBP - 115X6 (WAY to light), 120X6 (still to light), 135X6 (Going up 5lbs.) PR! Rows - 170X5,5,5,5 (Light, going up 10 lbs) PR! Pullovers - 25X8,8 (Tried to get a big stretch and tried to utilize my lats)
Spint workout:
6 40 yard sprints, focused on explosive takeoff, jog/high kneed rest of way. 2 40 yard sprints, focused on top speed Back pedal 40 yards, jog to start Shuffle 40 yards, jog back Back Pedal, Rip, sprint to start Crossover shuffling, left and right side
Depending on how my legs feel(not soreness, where they hurt) I might not do Saturdays sprint workout.

Edit: Earlier I didn't have time to make any comments on my workout. My knee is never bothered by weighted exercises. But the thing under my calf was hurting only a slight bit. So I went along with my workout. My squats went up pretty easy, I'm going to stick with the weight on my calf raises though. I'm probably going to be doing my sprinting workouts Saturday. Good workout though.

Good workout today, except for the Jerks. Now before you press reply and say "I hate jerks at the gym while your working out" lemme say, it was the exercise. Anyways heres how today went:
Sprints: Went down to the school's basketball court with my friends. Started playing basketball then we started to do sprints. 2 50 yard explosive starts then jog the rest of the 50. Comment: Getting better. The 1st jog we did high knees then the 2nd we did butt kicks. 2 sprints Comment: this was actually a race, I think it helped me be competitive and run faster. I did pretty good, for sure around a 4.9 both runs. 2 1/2 mile jogs Comment: Reason it was 2 1/2 mile is because during the end of the second lap the injury under my calf was hurting. So I stretched it, tried massaging(sp) it, then finished up. Back Pedal, Sprint back to start Comment: Getting alot better. I stayed in the position I was supposed to, and was getting faster while doing this.
Overall Sprint workout: Great. Except for my injury, it was hurting a little. But I'm getting noticeably faster.
Workout: Speed Floor Press - 135X5,5,5,5,5 Floor Press - 195X0, 185X0 (Gay) Military Press - 85X5,5,5,5,5 (EASY!) Plate Front Raises - 45X5,5 Jerks - 95X5, 115X4, 135X0 (Couldn't lock out) Lying Skullcrushers - 50X8,8,8 Tricep Extension - 10X10,10,10,10 Rotator cuff exercises with 10 lbs.
Overall Weightlifting Workout: GREAT. Everything felt light, even the jerks, even though I couldn't do 135. I'm going up in everything except the Jerks, I'm going to go down to 125 and work up from there.
Great workouts today. Tomorrow going to a cookout then Monday doing my speed bench workout again.

Really had no desire to workout tonight. Did it anyway. It's hard to focus on anything with my cousin going to be going to bootcamp Thursday. Still, no excuses, I did all I could, making sure I got in my military press(most important on my Mondays)
Military Press - 90X5,5,5,5,5 2 handed DB Raise - 50X6 Skullcrushers - 55X8,8 Tri Ext - 12.5X10,6 Pushups - BWX15(Regular), 6(Tricep), 5(Knuckles/Regular) Rotator Cuff work.

Deadlift - 305X3,3,3 PR!! Good Morning - 85X8,8(doesn't hurt my neck anymore) Clean and Jerk - 125X3,2 (Both were really sloppy, going to go down and work on form) Jumps - 28in. X5,5,5 Crunches - BWX100
The only reason crunches are in there are for football, our football team is working up to 1000 crunches in a row. Yes, 1000 no typo. One-thousand. I'm not used to high reps with anything, so those hurt a good deal. I'ma get used to it, and come out on top. Tomorrow is heavy bench and sprints. Thursday theres a possibility I won't workout because I'm going to Jacksonville to see my cousin for a while before he leaves for boot camp.

Turned out to be a pretty good workout. Strayed away from the regular workout, but I still got a great one in...
Squat - 125X5, 135X5, 145X5, 155X5, 165X5 Speed RDL - 215X3,3,3 RDL - 315X6 (EASY!!!), 365X1/2 (could've gotten this if I didn't do 6 on 315) SLDL - 135X12,12
My lower back is on FIRE. Tomorrow it's gunna be hard getting around, lol. Well, nothing to do from here but eat, sleep and grow.

Last night's workout was good. I thought I wasn't gunna get in my whole workout. Here's what I did:
Speed Floor Press - 115X3,3,3,3,3 Military Press - 95X5,5,5,5,5 PR!!! Front Raise - 45X8,8,8 Floor Skullcrushers - 60X8,6,2 PR!!! Tri Ext - 12.5X10,10,10,10,10(Right)8(Left) PR!!!
So, my military press is shooting threw the roof! Todays deadlifts and tomorrow is sprints. I'm gunna hit heavy bench Thursday and Squat Friday.

Pretty good. Gunna stick with deadlifts till 5 reps. And clean and jerk form is still bad. So I'm gunna work on it. Getting stronger/better overall. Tomorrow is sprints, Thursday is heavy bench.
