I probably shouldn't even post this here, but here it goes anyway.
My back still hurts where that butcher of a doctor punctured my spine. I did light deadlifts tonight anyway:
5 x 5 x 225 1 x 5 x 275
All felt good and light. Mild pain.
Flat Bench
5 x 6 x 205 1 x 295
I struggled tonight to get that 295. I probably shouldn't have done it, I thought it would fly up. Not. Let's see if I have a headache tomorrow.

"Let's see if I have a headache tomorrow." I HOPE NOT! Looking forward to your post for you to say "no headache".
I really deeply hope you're still able to lift even if it is light......well, light for YOU isn't necessarily light....but you know what I mean.
Looking for good news about the headache.....
God Bless.

Thanks for the well wishes, Doug. Good news!! No headache. I have a bunch of things that I'm going to try in order to narrow the cause down.
Physical Therapy Mouth Guard Concentrate on trying to breathe during heavy lifting. Talk to doctor about some of the results from my labs. My liver enzymes were really out of whack on the day of the big headache. 1 week later the SGOT was reduced by 50%. We'll see.

Thank the Good Lord! No headache! That is most excellent! Thanks for letting us know.
Keep us posted on your experiments. Remember to only manipulate one variable at the time. Blah blah blah. Most importantly, don't overdo it and start getting headaches again. Ease back into heavier weights if you have to.
God Bless.

Good news, Rock! Sometimes going light is "harder" than going heavy . Hope the no headache trend continues.

Well, as you may have guessed, I haven't been working out. Still have problems with compression in my cervical spine. Anyway, I had a bright idea, and ran it by my PT guy last night; how about if do a bench for repetitions competition??? He said that would be OK, so here's my mini workout from tonight
Bench 185 x 20 Lat Pull down 100 x 20 Seated row 100 x 20 biceps curl 85 x 16 decline crunch 16
Let's see how that flies.

Rockman, this morning my prayer for YOU is that you have NO headaches today! I am tickled pink your PT guy said "bench"!!
185x20. That's just cruel and unusual punishment.
Keep us posted, Rockman! I am glad you can lift!
God Bless.

Thanks Doug. I am still struggling with headaches, though. It seems that my arched bench set up may be the culprit.
Anyway, another light workout on Tuesday night.
Bench
175 x 23, back flat on the bench, and these felt good. 175 x 10 arched. By 10 the top of my spine was hurting, so I just stopped.
Cable triceps extensions
150 x 2 sets of 15
EZ curls
2 x 15 x 80
Dumbbell Curls
15 x 35 each
Decline crunches
2 x 15
It's Thursday, and I don't feel bad, so I should be safe. Going away for the weekend, and will post again Monday. Have a great weekend, All.

175x23? ?!!!!!!! Egad, Rockman! Man, I sure hope something as simple as flattening out your bench press helps your headaches! So far so good! Have a great weekend, Rockman. God Bless.

lol, thanks Doug. I want to do a bench for rep's with bodyweight competition, while I'm getting straightened out. I'm told that 30 rep's with bodyweight is competitive. I'm at 175/177, so that's what I'm training for.
All my benching will be flat back from now on.

I sure hope that flat benching does the trick! You are a STUD at 181 and it would be an honor to meet you at a comp some day.
30 reps? You are THERE Rockman! Already at 23? Can't remember the date, but I'd strongly expect with the meet day adrenaline rush you could hit right at 30 right now!
Keep us posted!
God Bless.

Wow, thanks for the kind words. I don't know what to say. It would be a great honor to me to meet all of you. I sure hope that happens someday. My wife and I went out to our daughter's house for the weekend. We babysat the grandchildren so she and her husband could go away for the weekend. We had a great time with the kids. The older girl is 3 1/2 years old, and already does gymnastics. Her sister is 6 months old, and is the most patient, good tempered baby I have ever seen. No bias here, huh? I can't begin to tell you the joy that they bring to our lives. Truly a blessing. OK, enough of being a proud grampy.

Yeah, Rockman...I love your PT...he's got a lot of wisdom to say "bench" Don't worry about the arch, you can get used to it, I benched a lot of years flat-back, and even now my "arch" really isn't. When is the reps meet?

I don't know where you guys get this sort of "rep" strength. Geez. I would have a very tough time benching my bodyweight (198) 30x. I am much better with the 1-5 rep range.

no assistance, and nothing hurt, so we'll see over the next day or so.

lat pull downs: 140 x 10, 150 x 10

That's a very strong workout, Rocky... I'd suggest that you follow a routine where you bench up to a heavy set of 1-3 reps on one day and bench for max reps at bodyweight on the next. Your assistance work looks strong as well. Keep on pounding the back and biceps. They are a big part of a big bench. I would just suggest doing some overhead pressing on your heavy benching day and bodyweight dips on your repetition benching day.

Rock, to just come off the flu, making a major adjustment to your bench form, all things considered that is an EXCELLENT workout! Impressive!
I sure hope to see you come back and post "no headaches"!!!
God Bless!

Thanks for the encouragement guys, it means a lot. Compared to the end of last year, I feel very weak. I'm gonna keep coming back as long as I'm able to.
Toolpod, the reps meet is March 17th. I don't have much time to train; I'll just do the best I can.
First legs workout in a long time

Deadlift (being very careful here)
135 x 10, 185 x 10, 225 x 5, 275 x 1, 300 x 1
Decline crunches: 3 x 15
Reverse Hypers: 3 x 15
Smith Machine shoulder presses, seat back like a steep incline

Nope, I don't see anything weak here..... au contraire, mon frere, looking mighty strong to me! I'm just as happy as a pig in mud you haven't been having headaches, not counting the 300 bench and 470x10 leg presses/300 deadlift!
God Bless!
