quick question...
i've been lifting seriously for quite a while now, focusing primarily on raw bench strength. for the first year or so when i first started out i had absolutely horrible form when benching heavy, pressing with horrendously uneven extension. i was never corrected early on and didnt know to correct myself, so this went on long enough for my body to develop bad pressing habits and eventually lead to uneven development in the pecs, shoulders, lats and tris, just my upper body in general. it wasnt until it later before i realized how bad my form was and how badly it needed corrected ASAP. so the next few years were spent trying to even things up and i think i gained some ground, but as i get into heavier and heavier weights, the problem seems to have started to reintroduce itself. the problem was never totally gone, one side was still a little bigger, stronger and more developed than the other, but now its starting to get a little more uneven just the slightest bit as the weights get heavier.
so i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and what they did to fix the problem. i was thinking of backing off of heavy weight for a while and kind of re-entering a base-building mode, doing a huge amount of volume maybe twice a week with full ROM benching on both flat bench and with DBs. and on the flat bench i was also thinking of adding maybe just an extra 2.5 plate to the smaller, weaker side to force it to work just a little harder. i was thinking if i just give it time and concentrating primarily on keeping everything as even as possible during the press with every single rep, that my development will just even out slowly but surely. does this sound effective or is there something extra i should be doing also possibly? or does anyone have any tried and true techniques or helpful hints for fixing a problem like this?
