I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on squatting in a competition. I am training for the Worlds but Im still a little unclear on the rules and don't know what to expect. Do you have to get parallel or even lower than that? Also do you have to pause it or wait for any command to bring it up? Thanks.

The squat rules in 100% RAW are a little different than most organizations. You do have to get lower than parallel for the squat to count. You must descend until the mid point of the thigh at the hip joint is lower than the mid point of the knee joint. To start the squat, you have to unrack the weight, assume an upright position and wait for the squat command. You then descend to depth and stand back up. Once you stand back up, you must demonstrate control of the weight and wait for the rack command......do not take a step before receiving the rack command. Hope this help. Complete rules are here: www.rawpowerlifting.com/pdf/rules.pdf

Thanks 3speed. Ya that whole midpoint of the thigh at the hip joint lower than the midpoint of the knee is what worries me. Im trying to train by going past parallel on the heavier squats, but I still feel like Im guessing as to how low a good squat will be. I even watched the video thats up on the site. I'll keep working on it, thanks again.

Hey, Brandon. Two things might help. I have the same problem, just where is parallel? One thing is to have a knowledgable guy to work out with, to help judge depth until you get very used to it. The other is to build a box so as you sit on it at the bottom of your sqauat, (sqauat?) you are maybe 1/2 to 1 inch below parallel. Then just rep out on it until the depth is automatic.
Hope this helps.
God Bless. Doug

I'll give that box idea a try. Thanks Doug.
