You need to start with a solid training plan. Most guys bench twice per week. Once heavy and once light. Mondays and Thursdays. You need to really train your triceps hard as they are the primary muscles used in the bench press. Don't forget to train the shoulders, too. Also do exercises for your biceps and upper back as these muscles support a big bench. Since you live in Brockton, Mass you might want to try and make it to the June 17th New England BP Classic in Spencer (near Worcester). You'll get a good idea of what competition benching is and a lot of guys will be more than happy to give you pointers.

And just to add the tiniest bit to what Abebesheir said, don't neglect the pecs. The shoulders and triceps advice he gave is right on target, as is the part about having a plan. You just need to keep your pecs in line with the shoulders and tri's to make sure they're also ready for those huge numbers you're going to be putting up.
God Bless. Doug
