How important would using boards be for a raw bencher? How many boards, 2, 3 ?? I know they help a lot for shirted benchers just not sure for raw lifters. Thanks

I believe they can help any bencher, raw or not. So do floor presses. I personally have only seen guys using 2 boards, any more than that is like lock outs in the power rack.

Yeah, board benching will definitely help your raw bench. I use only the two board. I do this for heavy triples on Thursdays. I do my main benching on Mondays, by the way. Marc Bartley (WSB elite lifter) says that the rule of thumb is whatever you can triple off the two board should be your raw paused max single. JM Blakely recommends doing board presses touch-and-go style which is MUCH harder than pausing the bar and letting it sink into the board. I have a meet on April 8th. I will have my last hard board session 5 days before the meet. Whatever I can triple in that session will be my final attempt in the competition.
