I just got into powerlifting again and am pretty much going by the Westside method.
I noticed that Louis' lifters seem to wear a belt when benching. Why? Is there an advantage to your bench when wearing a belt?
I also noticed that at least one member of this forum stated they did not like lever belts. What is wrong with them? Are they within the 100% Raw rules?
Thanks.

Hey, Ookla. That may have been me mentioning the lever belt, because I hold that opinion. However, I hold that opinion purely for the following reason: Old dog, new tricks. I've had the same belt since 1984. Seriously. And I'll restate why I wear one benching, although I don't use Westside. Locking that belt in tight is the next to last step in my routine. Again: old dog. Bill BigArm Blackstone has a very credible reason to NOT use a belt benching. But as far as I know, as long as a lever belt meets the size requirements, it's good to go. You can check it out here www.rawpowerlifting.com/pdf/rules.pdf but it's a PDF file, and they load SLOWLY! :') God Bless, and welcome to the forum. Doug P.

are they wearing bench shirts? if so then that is probably why they are wearing the belts.
They get the bench shirt pulled down tight.....then they lay back on the bench and go through their set up rotuine, all the while trying to keep the shirt tight...then usually the last thing they do is have someone pull down on the belt to tighten the shirt that last little bit
