I am wanting to validate if any supplements I currently take contain any prohibited ingredients. The company states all natural ingredients and any stimulates are plant based. Has anyone taken a drug test that is compliant to what is given at the PL comps? If so what test do you request from your doctor?
After being a spectator at the NC American Challenge I am interested in competing and really dont want to be banned on my first entry LOL.
On a slightly different topic. If you are prescribed a drug by a doctor (ex. amphetamine) that is on the banned substance list am I pretty much disqualified?
Much Appreciated

The fact that something is 100% natural and/or plant based does not mean it that it isn't banned from use in drug tested sports. There is only one line of supplements that is endorsed by the 100% RAW Federation. You can find it here, but be warned, it is a bit pricey: www.sspnutrition.com/about-ssp-nutrition/
I don't know how - short of using the product and then submitting to a drug test - it is possible to know whether a particular supplement will cause a positive result. Even doing that will only provide guidance on that particular container - not the product line itself. The following qoute is at the top of the FDA page on Medication Health Fraud. FDA has identified an emerging trend where over-the-counter products, frequently represented as dietary supplements, contain hidden active ingredients that could be harmful. Consumers may unknowingly take products laced with varying quantities of approved prescription drug ingredients, controlled substances, and untested and unstudied pharmaceutically active ingredients. These deceptive products can harm you! Hidden ingredients are increasingly becoming a problem in products promoted for bodybuilding. The full page - if you want to do further reading/research is: www.fda.gov/Drugs/ResourcesForYou/Consumers/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely/MedicationHealthFraud/ucm234523.htm
Here's what usually happens..... A company boosts the effectiveness of its product by adding "ingredient/s" not listed on the label - usually a prohormone, a steroid or a stimulant. Word gets out that people are making great gains with the product and sales skyrocket. Somebody abuses the product, gets sick or worse and the FDA gets involved. Tests are run, the product is found to be tainted and the FDA issues a letter to the company to immediately cease distribution. No further action is taken if the company complies. The company complies because they have already made their millions. They also destroy their remaining stock and take a tax write off on the loss.
If you wish to check a particular ingredient, you can do so here: www.globaldro.com/us-en/search/search.aspx
If you have been prescribed a drug that is on the banned list, you can usually get a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for it's use. TUEs do have to be filled out by your prescribing physician and come with restrictions. Your first step for more information would be contacting the Drug Testing Chairman. His email is nutritek601@yahoo.com

Thank you for all the great detail. I will definitely read up further. I heard the supplement company is working with NCAA for approvals for the use of the products on and off the field.

There is a form to fill out if you are on something prescription that is banned. However, they ask for a ton of private information - to which I'd never give any federation.
