This is not the meet write up - just a few quick words about the meet. The combined results won't be available for several weeks.
Paul, thank you for an incredible meet. It was great to step back onto a 100% RAW stage. It felt like going home.
I was on the white platform all day and did not get to see much of the black platform, but I would still like to send out a big THANK YOU to all of the people who worked that platform. You did a tremendous amount of work and kept things moving smoothly.
Like I said, I was on the white platform all day and the people who worked that side did an amazing job. Bill (sorry, last name??) did an incredible job running the platform. He did everything from calling the loading to helping load to making sure all of us knew what was happening and any changes that came up. The judges kept the lifters honest and went out of their way to make sure each lifter who got a red light knew why and what he needed to do to correct it. If you got a lift Saturday, you earned it. The spotters!!! I saw the spotters save at least 3 guys on the squats - one of which feel backwards. These guys loaded and spotted all day and did one heck of a job of it. They did as much work as all of the lifters combined.
I want to say a special Thank You to 2 lifters - Pat McMillan and Nick Hammer. I went to the meet with a huge goal in mind and everything was going to have to come together for me to hit it. Pat jumped in to encourage me and back spot on my 3rd squat. I would not have hit it without him there. Thank You Pat! I then proceeded to screw up my bench and needed a huge (for me) deadlift to hit my goal. There was a considerable delay loading my 3rd attempt. It was not the fault of anybody on the platform, but they were all apologizing for the delay and I was getting anxious/aggravated. Pay attention to this next part. Nick and I were tied for the lead in the 220s and he had just finished his lifting. If I made this pull, I would beat him. Nick walked over to me, talked me down and helped me focus to make the lift. I would not have made that dead without Nick's help. Thank you Nick!!
