Here is another question just out of curiously. What make a good meet? To be specific I’m talking about a local or regional event, not a national or world event. Also, for argument let’s assume two thing in our equipment is acceptable and judging is acceptable. I think to say it is safe to say everyone agree that both of these are required for a good meet
Also what about cost? How much is too much? I’ve paid as little as $40 and as much as $100 for a single event?
How about Awards? Do you care if you get some sort of award or not?

I think 100.00 would definitely be stretching how much i would be willing to pay...me being a family man....baby need shoes...lol...i would want to get an award of some kind...not for myself...but for my kids to have and cherish one day. Things like that do not have monetary value but have great sentimental value.

I'd have to say that a $100 entry fee would have me looking elsewhere. I could afford it. It just isn't worth that much to me. Aside from your 2 basics, I think a meet has to be run efficiently. I was in a meet a few years ago where the weigh-ins started at 7:30am and the meet wrapped up a little after 10pm. I would never do that again.
As far as awards go, I don't care either way.

To me, lifers make the meet. I have been to some were the atmosphere was the beanie hat hardcore and did not gel well with those personalities. A meet can and should be fun. Camaraderie, getting behind each other. Not pockets of individuals who appear to everyone else as if they are gearing up to enter the Roman Coliseum or charge from a fox hole and you are in the way.
This is why I love the Police and Fire meet. Cannot ask to be surrounded by a better suited group by process of gathering. Imagine your profession having a meet solely for those people...lol. The I.T. or trucker power bowl!.
However, other meets are equally good because they gather the exact opposite, a medley of different types.
Just like work, if the group around you is good, even things like bad judging, poor lighting, low crowd and everything else can still be enjoyed.
Only time I would shell out a 100 bucks would be for a world/national or some other prestigious meet in which I expect bells and whistles. Bigger crowd, good competition, good awards, etc. I'll take a fun local meet full fo characters any day of the week over one of those, except on occasion when I think I should make a mark of some sort.
