Last week I picked my daughter of from school, she is 6, we got home and there was a package on the front porch. I had recently ordered some bands from EliteFTS and I was pretty sure that what it was. Anyway my daughter runs up and picks up the package and says “Daddy, can I open your package?” I asked her why she was so sure it was for me, she turned the package to me and pointed at the EliteFTS logo and said “Because it’s got a picture of you on it”
I got to admit, I got a little weepy.

Dan that's really cool. I have a six year old granddaughter that I take to my Church, which is were I workout. She was watching me one night when I was deadlifting a weight that was heavy for me. At the mid point of the lift I started a long howl that lasted until I slowly locked it out. After I put it down and then sat down. She came over and climbed into my lap and hugged me. She was concerned that I had really hurt something. They pay closer attention than we think.

Ya – My little girl is my biggest fan. At meets I really have to steal myself before a lift because I know she is going to scream “GO DADDY!” Which just breaks me up every time.

My youngest son is 8. I took him to the gym with me a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday. My workout was outside flipping tires and picking up some stones. When I walked back inside, a teenager was in the squat rack surrounded by a few of his friends. He performed a half squat and started talking loudly about hitting a new pr. My son proceeded to tell him that wasn't a real squat and, besides that, my daddy is still warming up with that weight. The kid replied "Oh yeah, who's your dad". My son turned and pointed at me. The kid replied "uh,well, ok".
Once I was was sure I could talk without cracking up, I explained to him that a pr is a pr regardless of the weight. Everybody has to start somewhere. There was a time when I couldn't even unrack that much weight.
They definitely pay more attention than we think.

Things my oldest 8yr old has said recently to guys who have lifted with me...
..."My dad says squats cure cancer if you go deep enough" ..."sometimes we have to sit in the car for a few minutes because my dad says he feels dizzy after lifting" ..."my dad talks to the weights but not the bar" a guy placed a dumbbell on my bench, she said "that will tear the marine vinyl". someone was doing pulldowns, she said "my dad said those are for people who can't do pullups".
My favorite used to be when she would ask "Are you almost done" and I'll say "One more set", she used to always respond "You always say that...one more set." Now, she will ask if I am almost done, an I will look at her and she will say "I know...one more set"....lol.
Another cute recent one is I usually will ask any of my kids before a heavy lift if I will get the weight, and they usually just smile and shake their heads yes. A few days ago when testing my bench, I looked at my oldest and asked her "bear...am I going to get this?". She said, "Do you want to get it or embarrass yourself if front of you daughter. Sometimes when I think you will you don't"....lol
Those guys have lifted with me probably 60% of my workouts.

The sad thing osu, between us....you know on this public forum, my pull-ups are far from impressive. Three good ones and two questionable and I'm done...lol. The conversation she overheard was a younger guy asking me what I did for my back. I told him with the squatting and deadlifting, the only staple I have is a row variation, usually a Kroc row, straight leg deadlifts or good mornings. The squat rack he was using to do the pulldowns was mine, and he asked if I ever did pulldowns. I told him I thought they were kind of a waste, and recent looks at them suggest they do not engage enough or give as much stimulus as the above mentioned things. So, I said pulldowns are great for guys who cant do pullups to get something, but the focus should be on more heavy multi-joint movements, free weights without a pulley, etc.
What she remembered is anyone doing pulldowns cannot do pullups....lol.
