Thought this might be a fun little challenge. Let see where everyone grip stacks up. What I'd like to-do first is get a few ideas of how we might go about doing this.
My suggestion is a simple barbell static hold, hand over hand (NO HOOK GRIP) for a min of a 3sec hold, take the bar from whatever height works for you. Chalk is allowed. I know there are many dia. barbell types out there, and that's just a variable we will have to deal with.
Any other suggestions?

I gotta be honest, I think this has more of a place in full power meets than the strict curl.
I know that comment's gonna chafe some arses, but seriously, if you're talking about straight ahead power, who in the frig cares about somebody's biceps strenght?? I would be much more impressed to find out that someone can static hold a big weight for 30 seconds than to find out that same person can cheat-curl 200#.
I would love to be able to find out how strong my grip is, but no idea how to do it

I think in order to establish a true strength baseline, you need to do this strongman style:
We agree on a certain amount of weight that all of us need to hold (shouldn't be light, but shouldn't make you shake just getting into hold position), and then see who can hold the weight the longest.
Thoughts?

Have you guys thought about measuring up against Captains Of Crush(TM) grippers? I can close a #2 in my right hand, and almost close it in my left.

OK this sounds like fun!
I would suggest we use a fat (2inch) bar, no knurling. Before everyone goes off about not having said bar $40 and a trip to home depot can fix that. I think you’ll find that it becomes a very useful piece of equipment in your training repertoire. You will need 4 collars though.
Deadlift rules apply Except Double overhand, no hook grip, no sumo
My only issues with times stuff is you’re starting to get into endurance. Still cool bet it may be getting away from the point, grip strength.
I have a bunch of other grip stuff that I do but most of it requires special made equipment. Not a lot, basically just a 1 inch and 2 inch loading pin. I won’t bother to go into detail unless people want me to.

George – LoL – What happen was Rosario mistakenly started the conversation under “Logs” He asked if an Admin could move it to the “Open” but I honestly don’t think there are many admins here often. So I jury rigged the move from Logs to Open – I tried to start each reply with the person who originally posted it.
I figured it was a neat idea and it would survive better in the open.

Got it...one of those out of touch moments.
Toolpod - I bought the three and four COC but they might as well be novelty items. I come close on the 3...the 4...not so much.
Onething Ive noticed about grip training...it comes and goes quick with the COC's in my opinion.

George – It’s literally just a hunk of 2 in pipe from the hardware store. If I remember correctly I got min from Home depot. When I went shopping, I took in a 5 pound weight a just looked for the pipe that it fit best on. When I found the one I liked I had them cut me a 7 foot section removing the threading from the end so both end were smooth. I’m lucky, I have a friend that can weld so he welded the inside collars for me. I just measured a standard lifting bar and gave him the measurements. For the outside collars I use bolt down type, because the bar is not quite the same dimensions as an Olympic bar the compression collars don’t work so well. The end weight is about 20lbs. I have a friend that I train with on Sundays who got his hands on a solid peace of 2inch pipe that he used ant it weighed in at 70lbs.
Anyway, one of the properties of the pipe that make it unique is that the sleeves don’t spin (It’s a solid pipe) so you have to factor torque into the equation on you lifts. That why I like the 2 in bar deadlift as a grip test, you have to overcome the weight, the thickness of the bar and the torque of the bar as it tries to roll out of you hand.
It’s also fun for power cleans and pressing.
