Good Morning! I have been working out seriously for about 2 years. Everyone @ my gym says I should enter a bench press competition. I'm 46 years old, I weigh 215 and can bench 300-305. Not sure if I can even compete with others in my age group. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would do @ a meet? I've also been told that I should enter a drug free meet, since I have never done steroids. Looking forward to some answers.

All 100% raw meets are drug free so that is not a problem. As for how you would do at a meet, there are a lot of factors involved. The bench compaction generally has people coming out of the walls to compete so there is a good chance that you will have some direct compaction at an event. All that being said, if you think you what to compete then do it, if you’re not sure go to a meet first and check it out.
If you really want to get an idea where you might stand go look at the rankings for 2010.
If you do plan to compete I would strongly suggest reading over the rules and start training to that style (pause at the bottom and the hold at the top (Following the commands) I’ve seen a lot of people beat the selves on technicalities.
Events are fun, and a great way to meet other people who like to lift heavy thing. My only warning is be careful, it’s addictive!

dbunch is right on. Most of us compete just to have fun and meet new people with similar interest. I have enjoyed every competition I have been in and have made many new friends. Most of us still have a competitive drive and that is a good thing to keep. I certainly don't win every competiton but always have a goal of setting PR's ( personal records ). I would also checkout the logs on this website. These guys have knowledge and don't mind sharing it to help others. Try it out and I think you will get hooked

After alot of research & other input, I am going to do a meet, of course I would love to win but, I think just getting other pointers from fellow lifter is worth it, thanks for the input..

My name is Paul, just started doing competitions this year. Just wanted to let you know, they are very addictive. I've only done four so far, 4 first place finishes and a state record in the 100% raw, but you never know who will show up. Good luck competing.

Go for it, its the only way to really gauge how you do. A strict judging contest will let you know if what you've been doing is working.
