Im relatively new to competition lifting. I have done two competitions and took first place. I lift in the masters 242 lb class. But when looking at rankings, I see that my numbers are higher than a lot of those in the open class also. My question is, is there any benifit to lifting in that class also. Thanks for any advice from the experienced lifters.

Your name only show on the Masters Rankings and not the Mens Rankings as well? If so that stinks. But maybe that's what your fellow "Master" lifters wanted, I guess. There own special list I guess.

Just my thoughts. If you hold a record or finish first in any class other open it is a record or win with an asterisk, “You’re the best in this group” where if you hold the record in open or win the open even you are the best. That being said I normally enter the Masters Division first and if I have the money I’ll enter the open. It basically comes down to a question of how much I want/have to spend.

Guess that makes some sense to me. If I set a record, regardless of what bracket I enter, it will appear under the masters anyway becasue of my age? Am I understanding that correctly? So it really wouldn't make much sense to enter the open too, waste of money?

Records are set in whichever division your officially entered.
Anyone however can enter OPEN, with respect to gender that is.

Are the rankings U.S. only or are other countries included as well. Just wondering.

I think there is a great benefit to going in open class as well, As a master lifter myself it makes me want to work out harder to try and keep up with the younger guys and gives a wider range of guys to measure up against, Just my opinion.

I always enter both the masters and open divisions. It just seems there are not enough master lifters in each weight class and age group to make it competitive. I enjoy lifting against other lifters to get a little motivation and like to see where I stand against all competitors. In 100% Raw master lifters are included in the rankings

I agree, but in the end for me cost is the deciding factor. I only give myself so much money to compete each year and I have to make it last and if it comes down to a choice, I’m going to enter the masters.

If your as strong as the others in your division in the open then I would either compete in the open or spend the cash and do both. Meets are coming up with money for 1st place in an open class but none for winning a masters.
