I am very pleased to announce that North American Highlander Association (NAHA) will be hosting our first Nationals September 19, 2009. The location will be at the incredible Dino Gym in Abilene, KS. Al Meyer and Scott Tully will be hosting the event. All I can say is, if you have never been to Al Myer’s facility, you don’t know what you are missing. It rivals any facility, commercial or private, and must be seen to be appreciated. The Dino Gym has been the site of many National and local highland games, strongman and all-around lifting contests.
The entry form is posted on our website, www.nahighlander.com/Events.html, and the awards are already in hand. We have some very unique awards for the top 3 in each division (LW, MW, HW, Master & Women) and will be crowning 5 National Champions. We are very excited about this and hope to see you all out there. The only possible change to the entry will be in the case of rain. In the event it is raining, the farmers walk will be replace with powerstairs. Other than that, all events listed on the entry will remain the same, as the Dino Gym has an indoor and outdoor facility.
The contest hotel is America’s Best Value Inn 2210 North Buckeye Abilene, KS 67401 1-785-263-2050. The rate is $45 per night. When you call to reserve your room, tell them you are with NAHA Nationals. Rooms must be booked by September 11. They have a free continental breakfast, indoor pool/whirlpool and Mexican restaurant attached.
I will keep an updated competitor list as the entries come in. We wanted to release the date now so everyone would have plenty of time to plan on competing. The meet will be open to all competitors with a current NAHA membership card, as no qualifying will be required at this time. In the future, competitors will need to qualify to compete at NAHA Ntls. Cards will be for sale at the meet, if needed.
I will be making a post, when we get a little closer, for things to do/see in the Abilene area. There is a lot of sightseeing, shopping, history, etc. to do.
Keep checking the website and forum for new contests being added. Now that the holidays are over, we expect to add more events/dates in the next month or two.
2009 is going to be an exciting year for NAHA and we hope to see you on the field.
