I tired a combine thing. First I maxed out on the bench at 375, then I went 225 for 40 reps. i think that if I had a spotter that I could've hit 45 reps. BTW, I am 45 and weigh 205. Anyone else ever try such nonsense. I thiknk that I am ready for the combines.

That is a great total for doing 225LB.I bet you think you are ready for nascar now because you know how to drive. That is about the same logic.Give those boys some respect or you could go on "Pros vs Joes".You would be a "Joe".Just my 2 cents--GC

225 X 40 is big-time repping!
By the way GC, in addition to my day job as an attorney, I help coach football at a local high school (and played at the D-1 level until an injury derailed my career early on). As a project and as a favor to a couple of good kids, I recently personally trained 2 linemen. One went on to play at a major Big-12 program, and the other is at an SEC school that should be in the thick of the SEC race this year. I have been up close with both S&C programs, and at 48, I am stronger in most lifts than 90 percent or better of the players at either university, and we are talking big-time D-1 football. I have to admit that a ruptured disc would allow those guys to currently better me in the squat and the power cleans, but I'll take them in most everything else. Does that make me NFL material? No, but it does point out what I see alot of in the current coaching ranks -- S&C coaches who are not doing everything they could to get their guys where they need to be. Give me a Louie Simmons or a Defranco approach any day over those guys who think the only "explosive lifting" is Olympic lifting.
jesseisraels' point was not to say he should be in the NFL draft, but I guarantee you there aren't but a handful of D-1 players who can match his reps, and maybe none at a 205 body weight. I can also guaratee you that while coaches who have teams with weak bench pressers downplay the utility of the bench, it is still a standard used by the NFL. I can also tell you from 40 years of playing and coaching that I want my linemen strong in the bench and I will take 225 X 40 any day!

Hello,I am sure you know that the incline press is more of a realistic press for a football player than a flat bench. If you are pressing straight out in front of you,you are standing up and not in a good football position.I would rather have a group of players with great squats and cleans and we'll beat those "Bench" only guys.I will give you a better exercise than the incline--alternating incline DB press. What I do like aboutthe 225 rep test is it combines strength and conditioning.A game is 4 quarters and not a 1 rep contest.I am sure you know the HS kids do 185 instead of 225.I have a ton of palying/coaching exp., but no need to post a resume'.You know what they say about opinions.Football is alot of things and the weights don't hit back.GC P.S. when joking, things like Ha Ha ,lol, just kidding help when posting and people do not know you.I was thrown by nonsense and stupidity when describing what those elite athletes have to do for the scouts/coaches.Oh,by the way I coach a HS weightlifting team that just had a two time state champ that did a 420 bench at 199 Raw.We do bench and clean and jerk.We also have finished in the top 3 the last 5 years.I can't compete with the Law degree though ha ha.That is awesome that you are working and helping young people achieve their dreams,I am a big B.F.S. guy my self when it comes to strength training.Keep up the good work with the kids--GC
