I had a great day, everything clicked. I was very pleased with my performance. I hit a 10# PR on the axle and was fast and consistent on everything else.
I would like to thank everybody that has helped me achieve this in any way, especially the Lord for giving me the strength and ability.
Thank you to Eric Hammer and Shawn Baier for taking me under their wings over a year ago and really showing me how to do and fix some things with the events and also letting me train with them. Also to Joe Secord for bringing strongman to Omaha and getting me into it. Thanks to all the KCStrongman people (I am not going to name you all, you know who you are, because I will forget some names) for putting on the best meets in the country and all the support you give to us competitors, to Jesse Jobe for letting me train at your house, to Doug Harvey for getting me into powerlifting, which has given me the base for being competitive in strongman and all my family for putting up with all the stuff that we do.
I had just hoped to place in St. Louis. I had never dreamed of winning it and man is it a great feeling. The only bad thing about the whole experience was the way the meet was ran, utterly ridiculous and unacceptable for a Ntl. meet. That is all I am saying about that as the people close to me know the story.
Ok, after Ntls. Tim Nassen and I drove 8 hrs. directly from St. Louis, Mo. to McPherson, Ks. so we could compete the next day at the Scottish Festival Strongman. Boy was it nice to be back to our "home ground". We got in McPherson at midnight, in bed by 2:00 a.m. and back up at 7:00 a.m. to get ready to compete again. I competed in the Open 231 Division, there was three of us in it.
Here is how day 2 went.
1st Event Overhead Medley 1.5" axle 180#, 2" axle 200#, 8" log 220#,
8" log 240#
I got the first two and that was it. Not sure on time, pretty quick.
2nd Place
Weight for Height 56# Implement
11'
2nd Place
Farmers Walk/Keg Carry Medley 50' each 240# Farmers/255# Keg
Not sure on time, pretty quick.
2nd Place
Fingal Fingers
I got the first two and couldn't quite get the third.
2nd Place
Object Load - 220# Anvil, 255# Keg, 225# Sandbag, 270# Stone, 300# Keg all to staggered heights
Not sure on time, pretty quick except for the sandbag.
2nd Place
2nd Place Overall
I was very happy with my performance today considering it was my second contest in two days.
I had a great weekend competing and hanging out with my friends in McPherson. Thanks to Tim Nassen for driving/riding with me and doing this crazy double contest thing. There were two other guys that did the two contest thing with us, Dave Craft and Bobby Bounds. Great job to all!!
Also, I got to meet Greg Stott at the meet, very nice guy and tough competitor.
