09-14-2007 Deadlift
135 x 5 225 x 5 315 x 3 405 x 1 495 x 1 545 x 1 600 x 1 (Held last one a good 10 sec before it started sliding out of my hand) 500 x 8
Last DL session before my meet. 600 wasn't as fast as I'd would have liked but it was smooth and steady. Last set was TNG off the floor but absolutely no bouncing - it was pretty intense. Still looking like 550, 600, 625. My friend thinks I should go 580, 610, 650.

09-15-2007 Bench
Bench Press
Bar x 20 135 x 12 185 x 5 225 x 5 275 x 3 325 x 1 375 x 1 (Pauses) 405 x 1 (Pauses) 365 x 3
My last heavy day. I have an accessory day planned and one week out I will bench up to my opener and quit. Not that good today. 405 locked out slow. I'm a bit beat up from last night and I don't usually lift in the morning, especially after being up less than an hour. Big mistake.

I don't care much for lifting too soon after I get up either. One hour is just not enough stumbling arond the kitchen time for me.
It looks like you will do real well with a little rest.

Looking strong my man! I like your opener of 550 and then jumping to 610. The 3rd attempt should not be set in stone yet. The opener is the last warm-up and the second attempt is a good milestone to break into the 3rd will the throtle wide open.

09-15-2007 Bench
Bench Press
Bar x 20 135 x 12 185 x 5 225 x 5 275 x 3 325 x 1 380 x 1, 3 sets (Pauses)
Bench Press (20" between index fingers)
315 x 3 335 x 3 345 x 3
Thats it. I have not been getting much lifting in lately and I'm as ready as I will ever be for this meet. I think my bench was a bit stronger last cycle. The whole last 2 months have been a blur as I tried to maintain my lifting. Really lacked in preparation. I can't wait to get on an off season cycle and start hitting the core more and just work. I'm dying to squat too.
I feel pretty good about hitting 380 as an opener. This will allow for a 400 attempt on my second.

I know you don't think so, but this has been a strong cycle. Just take a look back thru your logs. I think you have worked this quite well.
Now, you rest. The work is done! Eat a good carb rich meal Friday night and git-r-done on Saturday. Enjoy Saturday but let us know how it goes as soon as you can.

Thank you gentleman. I feel ready. I've had a lot of pent up energy lately. I expect to pull big.
I can't wait though to get this meet out of the way and start concentrating on next year. Unless NH happens this is it for me until next year. That will give me good time to apply lessons learned over the year and get beastly. I'm turning 40 next spring and plan on going record hunting! Next year is going to be my year. Mark my word.

I was very disappointed in my Deadlift. I opened with a relatively easy 550ish and jumped to 611. I figured I had 600 two week ago so this was reasonable. I got it off the floor with pretty descent speed but could just not lock it out and as Sean pointed out I battled it very hard. About as close as you can get. I took a feeble 3rd attempt but after riding the bull for what seemed like 20 seconds. I was spent. I learned some things today. I will easily be back.
My bench went descent. Opened with a relatively easy 380ish. Almost blew the rack. Doh. Got a solid 402 on my second. MONKEY OFF MY BACK! Got destroyed by 412 on my third. Busted about halfway up. Nothing I can’t fix. I think I can still add pounds here.
Cool meet. Got schooled by a 69 year old in the DL! I wish I could remember what he finished with. 640?. Sweet. Sean’s crew was there and a big help spotting me and keeping me in check on my bench. Thanks guys. Bye the way, Sean’s is an unbelievable bencher!
