Yeah, but you're comparing your meet lift to my gym lift. I still can't boast the 500 gym lift ;D. Now THAT is impressive for a 181! And being a 2 meet veteran, I'm the authority!!

Don't sell yourself short! Gym lifts don't mean anything except to the person that did them. Your 1300 projected total is..... well.... MY projected total...... ;D God Bless!

On a good day I might squat as much as you guys and I'm big enough to load you both up with gravy and wash you down with some biscuits. You guys are both killer squatters and overall great lifters. Nuff said.

Well, I can't modify my table so bench night goes here, I guess. Mission accomplished tonight. 285x1, dare I say it, f-l-e-w up. Felt so good I hit a second one (single, that is) with the same happy result. Very tempting to file for membership in the 300 club, but stayed discipline and kept with the plan. Hit 300x1 on decline and straight over to weighted dips 5x3, 90lb. DB on dip belt. We're light years from awesome on bench, but I remember last cycle dropping 285 on my chest like ice cream in 100 degree heat. To throw it around tonight is the whole reason we do what we do. That's why I try to not get down on misses, because when you finally get it, it's just that much sweeter!! No liftoff, no spotter, just me vs. iron. Hard to believe only 2 weeks out . Weight staying in check around 169-170.

Your acting like a seasoned lifter Big. You and I both know you got that 300 but it sure will be sweet and well worth it when you pop that up at the meet. The enthusiasm is good telling me your ready. Should be a great meet.

Training 7/22 - One-arm rows 5x3. Added some snatch grip DL's just because I felt like it . Last heavy day complete in this cycle. Making an executive decision and am only going to SQ/BP on the 'pre-meet' day. The DL is the only wildcard, in that I wasn't able to best my meet PR in the gym. Squat/BP have been PR's the last couple weeks. I'm going to play my cards on the extra rest (2+ weeks of no deadlifting) working in my favor on meet day. Just some light work this week and then RM's on Friday.

Listen REAL careful to what Chancey said. That is wisdom with a capital W..... through M......
First off, EXCELLENT benching. Second, you are WAY WISE to the point of karma to not have gone after the 300. Wait until it's time, then come unglued. 285x2 singles easy, it's a pretty sure thing for 300, just wait on it.
God Bless!

I think it's a good call. Your back will be well rested to go PR.
Thanks for the wisdom comment Doug but sometimes we talk out loud to convince even ourselves. I know the tempation all too well. Heck, I ALWAYS want to lift heavy.

DE bench tonight. Decided not to do light squats a few days ago. For that matter, I think I'll toss anything light right out the window. Specifically, light without purpose, like the 230'ish squats I had planned. Now, DE-light (pun intended) stuff that's of value will, of course remain. And that's about it for tonight. Friday will do SQ/BP openers, then rest until the meet. A big, big go-tear-it-up to everyone who is competing over the next couple weeks!!!!!!!

DE-light.... I GET IT! Good one! I really like your sentence about "light without purpose", that defines a planned DE day. That ought to help the newer lifters visualize, thanks for putting it like that! Good public service announcement. :')
Rest up, eat up, next week is PARTY TIME!
God Bless!

"Pre-meet" went good. Felt rested and ready to go for Saturday. Worked up to SQ 380/425/460. Got up a little on my toes on 425, but sat back good for a smooth 460. That's more than I had planned, but good confidence boost that 470 is well within reach. Bench 250/280/290. Got all for controlled T&G's (no spotter). No DL's. About 4 pounds over for wt. class. Nothing a few minutes in the sauna can't solve ;D.

WOO HOO!!!!!!
That bears repeating.
WOO HOO!!!!!
Man, Big, I can't WAIT for you to post that total! Great squat, by the way! With a spotter, meet day adrenaline, the 470 and 300+ bench ought to be chiseled in stone. Today. I'm looking for you to come UNGLUED on that deadlift!
You ROCK dude!
Rest up and safe travel!
God Bless!

I wish I could report on an abundance of white lights, but I ended up seeing red in multiple ways . Squat was real tight and I just could not get down in the hole. This held true from the warm-up to final attempt. I did not adjust for the circumstances and missed 450 on #2/3. Had to settle for an opener, ugh... Bench was the lone bright spot of the day. Added 5 lbs. for a new meet PR and that one is slowly improving. I would and will never blame any outside forces for a missed lift, however the liftoff on my last attempt was quite rough and too much effort spent to bring it back to earth. Deadlift was 2/3 and fell 20 lbs. short of the last meet PR. What can I say? Sometimes you're the fly instead of the windshield. I suppose in a way, this was overdue. To date, I've had two 9/9 and 8/9 nearly picture perfect meets and this one was a reality check. Trying to add 70+ points to each meet total isn't going to hold up forever. Some peaking 1-2 weeks early along with stubborness and head-in-clouds syndrome all contributed to a rough day, but some experience gained, nonetheless. I'm still on the road to 1300, however I might take some more time to enjoy the scenery along the way . The drawing board is already in front of me and we'll keep charging forward.

Hey...you still got a bench PR...and 6(?)/9 is better by far than <6 of 9...You'd feel much worse fi you actually bombed! And the scenery is gorgeous this time of year... Did I mention your bench PR...after all that is the most important lift! Besides, and i think Sir Dopar the 66th pointed this out: If you grabbing 9/9 all the time, you're probably being too conservative!

First, congratulations on your PR.
Second, several lessons learned........congratulations.
Third, that attitude will serve you well in this sport. Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the PR. When you break it down it is still some awesome lifting. Your recent success makes that hard to see but from my seat you are one bad to the bone lifter. Enjoy some time off and those numbers will fall. Could be really all you need.

Congrat's on the bench PR, Biglifter! Awesome job.
You may wish you lifted more (don't we all???), but keep it in perspective. You are a very strong and talented lifter. I would have folded up like a paper lantern under the weights that you put up! ;D

Big, do you squat wide, narrow, or in between? Sounds like there may be some hip flexibility issues, and that's an easy fix, just takes a little time. I hate to say it, but stretch the hips from all directions, inside and out, and the hams. (I hate stretching, 'nuff said.)
Now on to the good part! CONGRATULATIONS on the PR! That is WOO HOO worthy! All that hard work is definitely paying off!
Now on to the deeply philosophical part. Your new misses are higher than your old PRs. Think on that a bit.
Now on to the practical, nuts-n-bolts part. On your last day, when you work up to openers, don't work up to a DL opener. Save up! Also, you say you peaked about two weeks early, next cycle duplicate this cycle exactly to the letter, except knock two weeks off the last end of it. YOU, sir, have PROVEN this cycle works, that you add strength with it. It's just that right now, at this stage in your development, it's two weeks too long.
I tell you, you amaze me with some incredible lifting! You outlift most of the 181s I know and a good portion of the 198s. Look up, not down, this was a GREAT meet if not for the learning experience and nothing else!
God Bless!

Thanks to all!! Being a "basement lifter", I consider everyone here my training partner and value all the feedback as if you were standing right in front me. I took a solid week of to clear my mind, get re-energized and now it's back to the grindstone. 10/20 is the next meet and the 9 week plan is on the drawing board. If anyone sees a pitfall or opportunity for something better, step up and let me have it! I've yet to have my feelings hurt . Doug, many, many, many thanks on the squat stance question. My discomfort from the opener was proof-positive that we have a flexibility problem. I was taking a wide stance in training and getting some good poundage to move, but once the belt went on and I didn't have the markers anymore (base beams on the rack), I likely went too wide and Mack truck on my back wouldn't have pushed me down. Lesson learned and won't be repeated.
