Detail #1 is that I joined the masters ranks this year ;D. Just another day on the platform, FWIW.
Squat - Just felt good from the very start. The last couple meets, my 3rd attempt has been 2/3 white lights, and I know I was cutting the depth close. This time, 3/3 and I can thank the inclusion of heavy pause squats over several training cycles for this. Really made a huge difference in getting confident down deep.
Bench - Usual weirdness. Opener was fine, 2nd was slow but met the goal, so only added 5 lbs. for the final lift. Not sure if I got tighter or hit just right on the chest, but the final attempt flew up like nothing. Most definitely left some on the platform, but we'll reclaim it another day.
Deadlift - Just like the squat, felt tight and in the groove. Again, a change in training helped out here. I've always missed the 3rd attempts and had a bad habit of being totally gassed after the 2nd. The training leading up to the meet, a big focus was on backoff sets, something around 3x5 with 80+% 1RM. I always used to end deadlift day with a heavy single, but these added backoff sets made a difference in being able to gut out that final attempt when everything is fried. 540 went nice and smooth with no grind. Probably left a little on the platform here as well, but no excuses. Happy with the result and there is plenty of room to keep improving, even at the tender age of 40.
No secrets here, just that consistency truly is the key. It might run a little longer than planned, but eventually pays off.

I thank you all. I'll try to at least post a monthly training summary to keep things current. Not really that sore following the meet, so back in the saddle (light) starting today.

Great numbers for any age. You are just entering your prime for powerlifting. With a few adjustments for age you can continue to make gains for years to come. I madfe some of my best lifts after hitting 50.

Starting late is not a bad thing. Years of heavy lifting can take a toll on anyone. What most of us do wrong especially as we age is overtrain. Your body needs rest and periods of less intensity to keep improving. You are never too old to add muscle but at some point adding muscle will be over taken by the natural process of aging.

That’s one of the thing I love about powerlifting, it truly is a sport for all ages.
