Thanks for stopping by gentlemen. Chancey, it would appear we agree on a few points. ToolPod, Vicadin workouts are not for the beginner. ;D DOPAR, you are too easily impressed. Saturday 10/7/06 Light Bench135 x 12 135 x 10 175 x 10 205 x 12 205 x 12 205 x 12 DipsBodyweight for 3 sets of 20. Couldn't hop up on the rack with any weight. Really anxious about the news from the ortho. If it is just pain, I will train toward the Worlds. If there is physical damage, I will rehab and train for next year.

I know everyone wishes for the best. Really miss seeing you put the smack down on some Squats.

Thanks Chancey.
The only reason I bench is that it's required for a full meet. My co-favorites are squat and deadlift. I admit I'm probably a little strange but I really enjoy the challenge of those 2 lifts. Kinda of feels like missing an old friend right now. But on a positive note....it has been 3 weeks since I squatted and the legs of my pants are starting to fit a little more comfortably now. ;D

Well folks, I just returned from my Ortho and it is now official - my foot is broken. A minor non-dislocated fracture. Translation: small break, big pain. The good news is that it should be healed in about 2 more weeks with proper diet and supplementation. The doc commended me on my diet and said it is helping my recovery considerably. In the interim, it appears I'm going to have to be satisfied with doing the "b" word. Oh well.

Healed in 2 weeks...does that mean in 2 weeks you can start lifting on it? You still on for the worlds? Glad it turned out somewhat minor.

Thank you Chancey. Yes, I was told I should be able to resume training in 2 weeks. If I am not pain free by my next visit(10/23), he is going to give me an injection in my foot. I don't know about the Worlds at this point. It will depend on my training when I start back. I would hate to commit now and then not be able to train next month.

"Vicadin workouts are not for the beginner." Kinda reminds me of a scene from HBO's football series, 1st & 10, years ago. A rookie wanders into the trainer's office before a game just in time to see the Doc jamming a huge needle right into an older vet's knee (shudder) The vet looks up and sees the kid's face go pale and smiles at him and says: "Welcome to the NFL, kid" Diet? What's that?

Okay, aside from the pants fitting better, two weeks isn't enough to cause too much atrophy and strength loss, especially if you're still staying up on the diet. Considering the comments you've already made, that doesn't appear to be an issue. So all things considered I guess it's not terrible news that it's broken.
Man. I was sure hoping to get to see you lift again in VT. We'll keep hoping!
Yeah, the bench is a good way to pass the time between the squat and the deadlift.
:')
God BLess.

Thank you Doug.
I actually consider the break to be good news. I know it will heal soon and I can move on. If it had been a tendon or ligament, it could have bothered me for months.
Toolpod, I didn't mean to give the impression that I am on a diet...just meant my overall style of eating. I would rather lift in the 242's at 221 than drop 1 lb to 'make weight'. I had to work too hard to gain what I have.

I wish I had your discipline. If I don't make weight for VT I am changing my log on to FriedTwinkie.

Your bench is looking real good. Maybe you should just drop that other fluff and be a Bench Specialist. ;D

Thank you Doug. I do appreciate that.
Thank you Chancey. I'd like to give up bench and just concentrate on the 'fluff'. ;D I blew out both of my shoulders at the same time and broke 2 ribs as a result back in '89. I was a 450lb raw bencher at the time(181/198 class). The recovery/surgeries/recovery kept me out of the gym for 18 months. I have not been able to get close to that weight since. But never let it be said that I backed down from a good challenge.

Wednesday 11/01/06
I took today off so I decided to try the gym for a change.
Bench
135 x 12 135 x 8 185 x 7 225 x 5 275 x 2 315 x 3 315 x 3 315 x 3 Bench felt good. I was surprised after the beating my shoulders have been taking.
Squat.....time to check out the foot. Kept listening for the pop.
135 x 10 135 x 6 225 x 5 315 x 5 405 x 7 Called it a day there. I haven't squatted in 6 weeks and I would like to be able to walk tomorrow. It sure felt good to take the weight on my shoulders again. Is it possible to get addicted to this stuff??
Thank you to all who have kept encouraging me thru PM's and the board and a special THANK YOU for all the prayers for my recovery.

If you leave me a PM or a board message, don't get frustrated if I don't answer right away. This working for myself stuff is keeping me on the road a LOT. I check in here as much as possible but sometimes it is only a couple of times a week.

6 weeks no squatting, hit 405x7 and "decide" to call it a day.
FREAKY!

God Bless. (The prayers continue, 3Speed.)
