What I found interesting, is that humans are one of the few species that do NOT produce there own vitamin C. What I mean is that for example we can produce our own Vitamin D with the help of sunlight, etc. Many animal species can produce their own vitamin C and in fact have been found to increase their levels of vitamin C production during times of stress, injury, or illness. Maybe this explains why animals don't suffer nearly as much as we humans do with the common cold. This would also lend one to believe that increasing vitamin C consumption is a good preventative measure for staving off illness, and speeding up recovery during times of injury or illness.
