Hey everyone. Just joined the forum. Wanted to say I think RAW is the way to go. I'm a former ADFPA lifter in the 220's. I think if powerlifting ever makes it into the Games, it will be Bench and Deadlift and no gear. I wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with shautting heavy without knee wraps. My currrent training squat is 500, and is a long way off from my best ever 590. Just wanted to know what everyone else thinks. Is there a chance knee wraps will be let into RAW? From a safety perspective, I think it would be a good idea. After hitting 40, I noticed you have to be a bit more careful with your body.
Cheers, Pete

Hey, Pete! Glad you found the forum!
I've found the hard way that when I offer my two cents about stuff like squatting with wraps, there are a dozen folks with more knowledge and experience than myself who have much better informed opinons. :') AfterI took off the wraps, I moved my feet out a little and that made my knees ache less.
Glad to see Illinois is really adding folks almost daily!
God Bless. Doug P.

Thanks Doug! I never had a problem with knee aches per se', and I'm a wide stance squatter already, same with my sumo DL.
Only thing that crept up on me, from not lifting for a few years [10], is I started bending over a bit, hate that feeling, never used to do that. I suppose Good mornings are the answer.
I'm also the only powerlifter in the "healthclub" I lift in. So throwing on a bench shirt or squat suit would turn some heads. I'm thinking of approaching the owner, maybe to help convert them to powerlifting. But for now, lifting raw will take care of that.
I'll wait to hear from anyone else that has any opinions on squatting heavy w/o wraps. Thaks for your reply.
I really think this organizaion will take off, especially with how fragmented powerlifting has become over the years. I think allot of lifter are looking for some simplicity like this.
Cheers,
Pete

Hey, Pete. I hate to keep being the only person replying, but funny you should mention being the only powerlifter in a health club....
I get the most funny looks on Fridays when I deadlift. I tell you, dropping 475 on the floor ended yoga class one day!
:')

That's gotta be funny. I can only imagine the looks you get.
I deadlift at home for that reason. I cant see any place in my gym to deadlift.
At home I have a good powerline powerrack, and about 600 pounds of plates.
All I'm shopping for is a good leg press and leg ex/leg curl machine and then I'll quitting the health club.

New guy here from Gurnee.
I will be lifting Saturday. I get crap all the time at Golds about leaving chalk on the ground.
Just the other day one of the employees came over and said chalk wasn't allowed. I just said it was Magnesium Carbonate and he said alright!!
