What do most people think about Ed Coan's periodized training approach?

i did not like it for they are steriod users at one time, so they recover fast than natrual. So it would not be geared to rest.

But the general frequency and volume I've seen in some of his cycles aren't so high. Based on some of the templates I've seen there would be plenty of time to recover...I guess that all depends on the individual.

I've used a bench press routine found online. It worked well, but is about 10-12 weeks. The volume isn't bad if you follow correctly. You only do one heavy bench day and that isn't bad until the end. You hit shoulders pretty heavy once a week also.

I've also used this style of training.I did very well by using periodization.I used higher reps for my core lifts for a longer period than Ed Coan when i first started using this stlye to build up my base strenght.I also lifted only 4days a week.I used 4 weeks of 10's,4 weeks of 8's,4 weeks of 6 to 5 reps.I would then start another cycle 2weeks of 10's, 2weeks of 8's,2weeks of 6's,2weeks of 4's,2weeks of 3 or 2's, then i would max out.If Iwould start to plateau i would add new exercise to my program that would help my lift that i was stuck at.This is old school training.It will work for those who don't use steriods, But it won't work forever without changing it around a bit.I think that is why people like the westside style .I think that westside is desinged for a geared lifter,but with that said I think you take from it use what works for you.

I've used modified Westside templates for traingin, and I have gotten some good results with it on bench. I think the key for the raw lifter is to make sure you get enough volume in training...without overdoing it.
