Hi I'm 18 and would be in the 165 weight class. What should my bench be if I want to actually be competitive with the other lifters in this competition? Thanks

245-300 Last year at the WORLD Bench the top 8 was 245-300. So if you can get 245 or better you would be in the top 8 last year at the World's.
Now there are guys out there who can bench much more. They are the World record holders.

Teenage 165 class if you do anywhere from 245 you will place. If you do 275 you have a great chance at 1st. Remember there will not be more than 2-3 in that class so you will probably finish top 3. Good luck and we hope to see you lift with us. The awards are our best ever with over $8500 in awards. You will be happy and should enter the open also.

I can definately compete with those weights. I thought you were going to say around 350 lbs. I am seriously considering joining this tournament. I just have a couple questions because I have never been to a bench competition.
1st) How long do you hold the bar on your chest before getting the single to press it? 2nd) Does every winner of every class get the same cut of the prize money? (I don't mean to sound greedy, but college students are kind of broke and its a nice incentive.)
Thanks for the reply

Sam, As far as the bar stopping on your chest, it must be motionless and in control. It can be a split second or it can be 1-2 seconds. It depends on if you have control of the bar.
Next there is no money giving out in this meet. This is an amateur competition which means no money involved.
There is a lot of money invested in the awards and this meet is our best meet of the years. We have lifters from all over the contry come in and compete.
Good luck I hope to see you here.

ill do my best to be active and visit the new fourms, which look real great by the way, i have had some family issues and a nagging injury stall my training. I plan to kick my self back into the old routine soon, it is so easy to make excuses, but somtimes the gym needs set aside for a while. I will be back lifting better than ever.

has anyone entered the 18-19 year old 165 weight class yet? Because I don't want to register and then go to the competition only to be the only one in the division.

Mike, I've wanted to get into DL training with you since about a week after we met. At the rate the federation is growing, I've no doubt that we'll be out in your neck of the woods soon. I've come to learn that I may have some 2nd degree contacts at the Air Force Academy. If I can develop that into something tangible, then we can at least meet up in Colorado in 2006. ;D 2006 sounds fun to me,
