I did a smolov workout today in the base meso. I may have been a little bit ambitious with the PR i used to base my numbers off, and I started failing reps so that I had to be helped up a little bit from the bottom before I could complete the rep. It was still a hard workout, but I don't know what to do from here, or what to do if that happens again. Should I drop the weight a bit or should I just get a spotter to help me a little bit from the bottom and do 3/4 of the rep.
Thanks,
Jason

The Smolov routine should only be attempted by advanced lifter who has built up his work capacity to a very high level. Even then, it can be a brutal routine. It becomes as much a mental exercise as a physical one. You haven't supplied any background/training history but your question itself leads me to believe you aren't ready for Smolov.

The major problem w/ any program that many lifters make is not tailoring it to their needs. You MUST tailor it to your needs and goals. If you're gonna do Smolov, which is a crazy amount of medium weight volume, I'd highly recommend backing way off on the weights you are basing your percentages.
And like Woody said, what experience do you have? What maxes are you at right now? Info is needed so we can help you.

I googled the guy and he's one of those crossfitter "let's see how much weight we can C&J for time before blowing out a knee or rupturing some discs" types. Five years from now, he'll be on to extreme ice cycling or naked volcano scaling, or what have you.
I know, I sound like a grumpy old man, but I am 40 so if the shoe fits......lol
