Hi everybody,
I have a grade 1-2 AC separation from doing bench press. I was hoping to hear from people who have had the same thing and the outcomes they have encountered. I was hoping to do my first sanctioned meet this summer, but due to this injury I will have to wait. I have a previous gym max of 455lbs, bench, last winter. I was working on my pause reps for a competition with 405 at the end of January when I sprained my AC. I have a 10mm AC joint space, but no superior migration of the clavicle, so the CC ligaments are intact. My question is, Has anyone else dealt successfully with a similar injury? Also, can i expect to get full strength back in my bench given I do my part to rehab. Bench press has always been my strongest lift. I'm hoping to compete at 205lbs. Any help and/or encouragement is appreciated. I am very passionate about this. Also, any reference to any great powerlifters who have had, and overcome, the same injury would be great! Thank you so much for answering!
Brad

It's been many years but I separated mine but I couldn't tell you how severe it was other than it hurt like a mofo. Several years later I ended up with a slap tear and surgery. Not sure if the slap happened partly as a result of the separation or not...all I do know is that my shoulder is pretty much screwed and hurts all the time to varying degrees and benching definitely isn't helping.

Thank you so much for answering! Brad One of the members on here (screen name: Toolpod) is a bench-only guy who's a 220 and benches in the 400's. I know that he had shoulder surgery within the past couple of years and has been back at benching since then. He has not made any mention in his log since the surgery of pain in the joint that I can recall, and he's still benching in the 400's to date. Good luck to you. -Ryan
