Hi,
When I squat the bar doesn't grip my back as well as I want it. The bar feels slippery on certain shirts I wear.
When I bench, my shirt makes my set-up feel less stable as well due to the slipping.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Aside from chalking the back of my shirt, are there any specialty shirts, mats or techniques you guys use to get a better grip?
Thanks!

LoL – Of course my first answer is chalk but as you excluded that answer I might suggest shirt decals. Go to a tee-shirt place and have them put some sort of decal high on the back. It will create a much less slippery surface for the bar and bench to grip.

If the bar isn't too low.....
Tighten up. Sounds to me like you're too loose. Grip the bar and pull it in towards you and pull your head/neck back into the bar. Squeeze the bar hard.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I am able to get a shelf with my back and the bar seems stable depending on the shirt I'm wearing. I think it comes down to the shirt material (100% cotton, cotton blend, etc). All the shirts I've tried are cotton in one form or another but some are just more slippery. The bar at the local gym doesn't have any knurling on the center so that may exacerbate the issue.
I may try and take a shirt and attach some material to increase the friction where the bar rests, basically around the upper and mid back. There is no substitute for a good "shelf", but this may help feel more "connected" to the bar.
If it works and helps the bar "stick" to the back and helps keeps your back arch on the bench solid, do you guys think other power lifters and gym goers would be interested in something similar? Imagine a shirt made of sweat wicking material that grips better than a cotton shirt!
Thanks!

It might be as simple as avoiding the shirts that give you the "slippery" felling when you lift. I only have two shirts that I will squat in because they seem to help lock the bar in place.
I also agree with osu122975. You should be trying to wrap that bar around your neck when you are squatting. That will definitely help tighten up things.
Be careful when thinking about adding anything to the shirt to hold the bar in place. It could invalidate your lift. From the rulebook: Baby powder, resin, talc or magnesium carbonates are the only substances that may be added to the body and attire.

Your not alone eet, I ran accossed the same issue. I used to be a huge underarmor fan, that type of shirt is just usable for me with squats. I like the feel of Inzer, and there cheap.
