hi all,
i am just returning to lifting after about 20 years. i just turned 45 and do not like where i have landed, time to return to the fray. anyways, i am starting with 5x5 to build some good habits and slowly recondition my dormant muscle.
i do have a question regarding foot wear, i have feet like fred flintstone or the hulk(also the cartoon version) i cant seem to find any chucks or chuck type sneakers. i have noticed wide minimalist running shoes, the so called "barefot shoes" are these shoes a better choice than a cross trainer?
back in the day the local gyms let the PL go barefoot. that is not allowed at my gym now.
i do NOT want to bugger my knees with squishy sneakers. so looking for best options.
thrilled to be back, after only 2 weeks i feel my body like i havent in decades.
cheers Handsome Dave

Welcome Dave. Glad to have you as part of the group. I think if you look back in the history there are several threads that talk about foot wear. But in the mean time I’ll give you my take on the subject I’ve a seen a lot of people who use the barefoot Shoe. My opinion of them, and a lot of what I read lately backs that us, is that there is no real benefit from them. I personally deadlift in slipped next best thing to barefoot and a good pair of slippers can be had for $6 to $10. For Bench and Squats I use weightlifting shoes. Now I have hobbit feet (14us, wide) My original pair were very thing and just Duckies painful to wear. So much so that after the squat I just stripped them off and benched in my sneakers. Until I got my Rouge shoes, they have a 14 wide that feels great and Can wear them all day. I paid about $100.
For me the best place to find stuff is on line. They never have my size or what I want in stores.

for reference...... the Pendalay show fits just a tiny bit snug on my 4E, i ordered my regular size (11)....for more reference...fake chucks (f*ucks) walmart version , Faded Glory, fit just fine if i lossen the laces. so all my worldly wants in a lifting shoe have been satisfied.
thanks again all for the inputs.
