Which do you prefer morning or nite workouts ?

For me it depends on what I'm doing, but I'm picky.
I don't like squatting first thing in the morning because it's hard for me to get dialed in mentally, and I need to have my mental sh*t straight in order to squat right. I also don't like squatting after a full work day because I've used a bunch of energy already (mentally and physically). So, whenever I can, I squat late morning/early afternoon (on my lunch hour) on a day when I work from home.
As for deads, my preferences and dislikes are roughly same as listed above for the squat, but I can deadlift later in the day if need be without fear of the same mental/physical dropoff I would experience squatting after a full work day. Not saying that I would ever choose to DL in the evening, but I've done it before without negative results.
Where the bench is concerned, it's pretty much the only major lift that I don't mind training first thing in the morning, but my preference is still mid-day, and I don't like benching in the evening at all (same as squat), because I feel that my form and focus need to be spot-on for me to get a good bench workout, which is hard to do on the heels of a work day.
I say all this to say that for me, it's not as simple as "I like to train in the morning or evening because......", for me anyway.
However, if I were rich and didn't have to work, I'd say the perfect time to train in general would be mid-day, somewhere between noon and 2pm.

I second that Ryandelman! There have been times when I was a little hard to warmup and would delay until the evening. There have even been times where I would complete the warmup and first set...only to quit and resume later.
This was usually because my times were restricted to early morning...before I could get rolling. Since being moved to afternoons, I have pretty much anytime before 2pm and find I am usually starting at 11:00am. Certainly not early or first thing.

Thank for input ryandelman and George . I think if we all had large sum of money we would all workout in early afternoon .The reason I asked this question was in the last year the only time I had to lift was at 4:00 am to 5:00am because of family obligations. I was more consistent at that time and it was done for the day.i also liked that I went to work afterwards and I really didn't get sore as if I did a workout in afternoon and didn't do much afterwards which I think allowed lactic acid to build up .besides the lack of sleep I also felt like I wasn't as strong in the morning ! But better than not working out .

Also, for as much as I HATE training in the early morning, if it were my only option (as it sounds like it was for you), then I'd do the same thing you did. No way I'd give up powerlifting just because of a time crunch. -Ryan

At my recent job.{non-physical}..I have worked the 3pm-11pm shift and the 11pm-7am shift...Regardless of shift I was always stronger before work {after sleep and a meal}...Recently on the 11pm-7am shift Ive done splits - splitting my workout in half, with the heavier stuff done before work.

I used to "WORKOUT" in the AM for years. I really like how it got me ready for the day, and I would also have my evening free for family time so plus plus.
I tried "TRAINING" that way and it was pretty tough to get in my Squats and Deadlift sessions. I simply lacked the focus needed for training those lifts. Bench wasn't bad, but maybe that's why my bench sucks, I lack the focus needed.
I only "TRAIN" in the evenings now, all the lifts. Reason, just a matter of LIFE at this point, and family driving training, and not training driving training I guess is the best way to put it.

maybe I have low "T"...lol...but I did document both my max's and working sets and I was weaker after work...Of course I havnt worked day shift in awhile and maybe that {shifts} could be a determining factor as well...
