How many here belong to a powerlifting style gym? Meaning run, and owned by powerlifters. I've got questions.

Main question is how do that typically run, open and run like another gym meaning you come in and do your own thing whenever there open. Or more like a corssfit gym, where training sessions are in timed slots and people work as groups?

I think it depends on their business model. I workout at 24 hour but there are several PL gyms that I looked into here in Omaha. They are structured like “Generic” gyms with give hours of operation. As with big gyms, you can also buy session with a PT if you like. The big difference is that the focus of the gym is power lifting both the gym itself and the PT. The biggest reasons I haven't joined one of them here are location (there both way across town) and cost, it would be about twice what I’m paying now. But that is understandable with a smaller customer base they that have to charge more.

There's rumors of one starting locally, which on the face sounds GREAT! I just don't know what there all about, you see the video's on PLwatch of teams training, and the idea looks cool to me. At the same time I can see how that might not work for me. I guess Ill just have to wait and see, and if nothing else drop in and see what it's all about.

I did, but I live in La Vista and its way over on maple way to far (for me) to drive in the morning, especially in the winter. I also have a really sweet deal at 24. I pay 200 and change for one year, big iron is 40 a month to month

Are there just set times, limits of lifters in a group, cost to be in a group, Im assuming in that style everyone following the same lifting template.

I’m not 100% sure but I believe you get on the team by invitation. I’ve talked with Becca Swanson who is a wonderful person and an extremely strong woman and who is the owner of Big Iron gym. I met her at several UAA meet I was in (she is an UAA official) Anyway As I understand it most people work out on their own, alone or in small groups but will occasionally get together for group lifts (Like Mini meets)

It’s a great gym – good equipment, well equipped and very much geared to serious heavy lifter and competition lifters. I never met Rick but I believe that you are correct and he did pass away. I’m not sure who is running the place day to day. Becca is in California perusing other things (Just found that out when I looked at her website this afternoon). LoL you blink and the world changes.
