Hello all, I have what might be considered a stupid question, but if I don't ask, I'll never know. When entering a competition that offers Bench, Dead-lift, and Strict Curl, do you have to pay the specified amount for each individual lift? If it says $60-Bench $60-Dead-lift $60-Strict Curl, does that mean it will cost $180 to do all 3?

Yes, sucks right? Then don't forget your Federation Card +$25, and Im sure a meet will not be in your backyard, so Travel and maybe Hotel money. On a bright side Single lifts are typically $40 and Strict Curls lower then that, but your formal for the math is correct. Oh and don't forget crossover cost, those Ill never understand.
With all that said, try to find a full power meet for the most bang for your buck. And this Fed is pretty typical cost wise, just the way it goes. Your find other Fed's that are cheap, and some that are way more, but this ones pretty middle of the road.
Personal I'd love to see and option for cheaper cost inline of these trophy, planks, belts, swards and other awards. Still have them, just give lifter an option to decline, these items where cool when I was 10 years.....just kidding, but not really.
Of course Im sure it wouldn't save much money, lets be honest these awards cost what $5 buck the way they buy them now...........sorry to hijack your post, hopefully i at least answered your question in the beginning.

Thank you, I thought maybe it would be full price for the 1st lift, then a little less for the others, that would make sense to me, they would make up in volume what they might lose in up front money. Anyway, thanks again.

If it says $60-Bench $60-Dead-lift $60-Strict Curl, does that mean it will cost $180 to do all 3? If you have a meet with those events, it would cost you $60 for the first event you entered and each additional event would be considered a crossover and charged at the reduced crossover rate. Also, if you enter additional divisions - Master, Open, etc, the additional entries would be charged at the crossover rate. Rosario: Some meets are starting to offer the option of receiving a medal instead of a trophy and have a lower entry fee if you choose that option. This is an attempt to hold down the costs for the lifter. However, a reasonable entry fee has to be charged just to be able to put on a meet. The costs of putting on a meet exceed what most people realize. There are many costs involved that most people don't think about. Most meet directors are doing good to break even.

This is an attempt to hold down the costs for the lifter. I've heard it talked about, but Ill believe it when I see it. Maybe a nice certifited, you know with the details, Meet name, date, weight class, division, place, nice gold lettering you know the works ......What the Hades I'm I going to-do with a metal? I wasn't questioning the cost, I hope it didn't come across that way. I've got no question that putting on a meet is very costly venture, especially in this Federation that doesn't just talk about drug testing, but actually does it. ;D

I have suggested the printed certificates to Paul before. He suggested that people might think it was an attempt to be cheap. If a few people suggest it, he might actually do it. He is always interested in doing what the lifters want.

Personally, I like a nice award. If I have to fork out an extra twenty or thirty bucks I accept that given I only do a handful (three or four at most) of meets a year anyways. If I'm going to bust my tail for three or four months in between then, take a day off from work and get a hotel and pay for the travel, then I might as well pitch in a little more to get something more.
The sad thing is I am not a "trophy seeker" per say. I enjoy the meets more for the camaraderie, total accumulation, record chase and ranking positions. The trophy is a nice consolation to these, but I have been let down before by cheap ones. (One time I recieved one that simply had a person with their hands above their heads holding a wreath. I did not notice until later on, upon closer inspection, that this was a woman...lol. It was an old cheering trophy with a new plate on it.)
I think it would be great to have a certificate option to run either consecutive or concurrent with a trophy. I would opt for both if it was reasonable. This would allow a lifter on a budget with a cheaper option, while also adding a profit for the meet director by those who choose to purchase both awards.

I’m with George on this one, I like a nice award. I wouldn’t quit lifting if all of a sudden everyone stopped giving out awards Think there kind of cool to have and I don’t mind shelling out a little extra if they have them. I actually spend more overall every year on my bowling league that I do on Strength events, and all I get from bowling is a banquet at the end of the season that has a lot of food I can’t eat

I like nice awards also, but I do get a bit sick of the swords being passed out lately, About the worst awards I have ever seen were second hand trophy's. The gym owner and another guy who lifted there had a bunch of old powerlifting trophy's they donated. The first time the guy had a meet at his gym I did not mind the retreads, I cut him some slack because I thought maybe he was getting his funds going for his first meet. Well he had another meet 6 months later and did the same thing. Then the next one which I did not go to he handed out pen and pencil sets. I think WABDL meets are sort of a rip off since they have the meet at a hotel and make you weigh in the day before and they are very pricey for the awards they give out. Also no Raw divisions.

I’ve been lucky all of the meets I’ve been in have had pretty good hardware, some of it really creative too. One year the meet director gave out 10lb dumbbells, with the plates attached to the heads of the weights. It was pretty cool.

I'm content just being listed as a record holder on the federation website. It's like a public declaration of an achievement. Everyone gets sick and tired fast if I carry a trophy everywhere I go.

I also agree with George. I enjoy looking at my trophies, brings back a lot of fun memories. I still have every one I have ever won. The very first one was in 1969. not all powerlifting LOL. Baseball & football as a kid. I can look at the date and event and remember it all
