I know I need more than a standard multi that Wal-Mart sells, but I can't decide which brand to go with. They all seem to be a little bit different with how they are designed to help lifters. Right now I am taking GNCs Mega Men Sport because it was on sale. I'm leaning towards ON's Opti-Men. Any suggestions?

They dry up the liver and kidneys. Just a warning.

Just to let you know. My physician told me to stop taking mega men. They dry up the liver and kidneys. Just a warning. Good to know. After reading some postings in the bodybuilding.com forum it seems like Opti-Men may have some lead in it, so it would be one to avoid if this is true. It looks like Orange Triad may be a way to go. What type of multi do you take? Also, did your dr. specify as to why this multi would dry up the liver and kidneys?

Wow! What an eye opener. Too bad more multivitamins weren't studied that are marketed towards athletes. Still, this is good to know. Thanks for posting this.

The following is what I love about vitamin assesments (and supplements). Here are two links connected to the Harvard school of medicine suggesting a dangerous level of folic acid in a multivitamin, stressing only a real signifigance for supplementing vitamin D...followed by a Yale article touting the rewards of folic acid and suggesting this crucial vitamin be supplemented by multivitamins. Harvard... www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/multivitamin-and-cancer-risk.htmwww.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2007/03.22/01-vitaminD.htmlYale... www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/vitamin-b9-000338.htmIt is also interesting how the Harvard study suggests the dangers of folic exposure are two fold because of the high amount in grainy foods, while the other praises the addition of folic in grains. These kinds of contrasting articles are everywhere about almost every supplementation topic. These two were just quick pick links to illustrate a point. If I had the time I would find more in depth studies that do similar contrasting. The irony is almost every study will discuss the availability of all vitamins in a normal, healthy well rounded diet...its just a matter of them arguing about what this really entails.

No reason. I don't always have time for jibber jabber. She does well by me, so I trust her. Most American doctor's I would not trust them with a hamster. The vitamin I take is mens one a day. She says that's all I really need, even though I move furniture by day and weights by night.

Interesting, I have been taking GNC Mega Man for years and have had bloodwork done over that course and haven't had any problems. I would be interested in knowing why she thinks it harms the liver, etc. more than any other multi. Most are comprised of the same components anyways. Alot of the difference in them is how they break down.

Beverly International makes a multi-vitamin for male lifters that is good. I order all of my supplements from Bodybuilding.com as they are far cheaper than local retail ... even with shipping.

A really good thing you should consider taking is animal pack from universal nutrition. it has eleven pills in it but you get great benefits from it. it literally has everything you need in it. just on animal pack and a whey protien i jumped my max on bench from 180 to 205.

Placebos are amazing. I never felt a dang thing from animal packs to nada. I begin to wonder about the claims that we don't even need them. But like most of you, we like to play safe - by this I've stopped taking massive amounts every day. But I still do them prior to workouts.
