My weight is around 159 now and i am 23. So i will be in the Raw 165 lb weight class and in the junior div. My max right now is around 300. I have gotten 315 once but havent been able to get it again. Do i stand a chance in bench press comp. or will I get smoked?

Yes. Yes. yes and yes, your only 23 and coming close to benching double your weight and will probably happen for you before the end of 2006 if your training goes good and is sound. Look at the results of this fed in your weight class for an accurate comparison, and then if this Fed takes off as Bud and others are trying to do; then its best to compete and learn to get better so when those people come out of the woodwork to join quality, you will be it. You stand a chance, and won't get smoked, and if you did get smoked; let it be motivation, the biggest battle is just showing up at a meet. Go for it.

I agree with Nels. You can check out the 100% Raw web site and look up the bench records for the 165s, and I think you'll find that a 300-315 bench is MORE than competitive. Only a handful of 165 guys in this fed have benched over 300, and even less full-power lifters have pushed 300+. A good cycle up to a meet and you'll easily get top 3 or 4, maybe even better!
Hope to see you at a meet soon! Doug P.

I think in a RAW competition. You'll do pretty good. Thats a impressive bench in your weight class. So, give it a try, you never know who your competeing against.

You got a great bench! Just go enter and have fun. It will make you better for the next one. Watch and learn from other guys.

Pause press. I'm not even going to ask which you've been training, pause or touch-n-go, but just be ready for a pause at the meet. Practicing bringing the bar down slow and under control will prep you as much as anything. If you're under control, the pause will be short anyway.
Knock 'em out! Doug P.
