I spoke with Paul today about the Nationals. He asked me to post this.
The Full Power Nationals this year will be split. There will be a West Nationals (Regional?) and an Eastern National (Regional?). The West National will be in Arizona - no other info at this time.
Paul is considering holding the Eastern Nationals in Maryland in conjunction with the Single Lift Nationals. He has a been offered a large venue that would provide separate areas for the 2 events.
Here is a question for those of you who would be competing in the Nationals: The proposed date for Eastern Nationals is June 20. Father's day is June 21. Would that be a problem for any of you? The 4th of July is just 2 weeks later so if the meet is moved back a week, it will fall very close to the 4th.
Please provide input here if you are considering - or would consider - lifting in the Nationals.

Please post the date and time for the Western event ASAP. September-October would be better for me personally, and Arizona is hotter than Hades in the summer. If you have not locked in the venue in Arizona, the Tacoma-Seattle area is beautiful in the summertime and fall and Tacoma area has a lot of good low cost venues.

Why not have the Western event of the Nationals on the same weekend as the Eastern event? That way no one coast gets an advantage of knowing what lifts have been done. I'd suggest Prescott AZ in mid-June. The weather will be great there since it's in the mountains. p.s. How'd I get a karma point?! That's very nice and thank you!

If held at the same time, results could be set back and forth via e-mail, and be posted for anyone interested at either meet. That way if some wanted to up the amount, someone could counter that attempt at the other meet. I will also state however that this makes it difficult for the promoters trying to line up venues so everything would match. (Also the time zone factor.) One question is: If the World's became an invite event, would the first place at both venues be invited to the Worlds, or just the first place overall? Inviting the first place winners at both regional venues might take away the problem of one coast having the advantage of the knowing the results of the previous meet, prior to the second meet taking place. If the first place at both meets were invited, they could go head to head at the Worlds, along with any other country that wanted to attend, and that would determine who was number one. As far as where , I thought that was already settled? If not, please advise. I agree that knowing a date ASAP is helpful to anyone training.

I haven't seen any reference for a final decision on Western Nationals event date or location, other than somewhere in Arizona. I didn't think about the time zone difference and of course their is e-mail to track other lifts, but I have seen NO references or intent that the National would qualify only winners to the Worlds. Usually, like in USAPL, the Nationals just set a moderate bar for weight classes so that most all serious lifters qualify for Worlds. I sincerely believe they want INclusion, not EXclusion for a good, competitive Worlds.

Thanks 105. Agree that inclusion (not exclusion) is very important. I think the invite comment was made awhile back by someone regarding having a standard for the World. Agree that most federations should be happy to have a large group of people attending any meet these days.
Was also thinking today about the e-mail idea. To make it more simple, the first and second attempts could be done as they normally are at a meet to keep things on track. After the second attempts , the standings are posted , and everyone in that flight would have time to adjust their third attempt. Once again, this would require the meets to be at the same date and time. (That's the real trick.) Currently there is another federation talking on the net about attempting this. Should be interesting to see if, and how, it gets pulled off. The idea seems to really have people voicing strong opinions on powerlifting watch awhile back when it was tried earlier. Any constructive ideas out there regarding the idea? It just seems strange that powerlifting is getting a boost from U-Tube, and the Internet these days, but when it comes to applying it to combining meets together that are in different locations, some people freak out. (Different judges at each location was one comment. Trick is to have good judges at both locations.) As far as just having two regional meets (Combined or not), I'm happy Paul is trying to create a meet closer for those located on the West Coast.

You make some very interesting points. I'm sure DJ will read your ideas and get the important concepts to Paul. I know Paul is working hard to get broader geographic participation and your ideas could help. I'll do my part by participating in the Western event if it is held in mid-June like the Eastern event.
