Is it true you should take a week off before comp. time to heal up. Someone told me i would come to the comp. a lot stronger is that true?

that is a part of almost every champs routine leading up to a meet....they call it "deloading"....basically the way it works is that the work you have already done causes a "training effect"....and that "training effect" can "lag behind"....so it shows up a week or so after you actually do it....so there is no need to hit it hard that last week b4 the meet....instead go really light and let the 'delayed training effect" have a chance to catch up also you will be really hungry to get to the weights on the day of the meet I have my first meet in a couple days....and I have deloaded and stayed out of the gym or only went really light....I feel fresh and rested now and ready to get after it in reality a lot of people feel that you should have one light week after every 3 weeks of hard training....as per this article for example www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do;jsessionid=C8AB50E41DE232B144D5A982E3F7846C.titan?id=546953
