So last week I go to therapy and the doc says "I'm adding a couple of exercises. Here do these two movements, then grab that dumbell to stretch your arm a little".
The dumbell was a little pink rubberized 1-pounder......
:')
I have about 95% of my flexibility back (realistically about as good as it's going to get) but no strength whatsoever. Can't even open a Dew with my left hand, I have to hold it between my feet and open it with my right hand. It's all good though, in May I go back to the orthopedic and am supposed to start doing some light resistance training.
God Bless!

Well, I was chasing your 475 @ 181 (with little success! ) so I'm looking for a speedy and strong recovery from you. Not fair to chase a man when he's down.

No matter how many times I read 'pink' and 'rubberized' in a post by you, it just slays me ;D. Looking forward to your continued progress (and when 'dark iron' creeps into the vocabulary again ).

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes! And Scott, all I can say is go ahead! Records are made to be broken!
Today was my first day with the 5 pound dumbell. 3x10 with supinated curls, hammer curls, good ole curls, front delt raises, side delt raises, rotator cuff thingys, and tricep extensions. All I can say is "WOO HOO!!!" I hope to graduate to the 20# dumbells after my doc visit on June 2.
Meanwhile, the smith squats are boring, one arm dumbell presses are all fine and good but I'm getting tired of the same old routine, and I've never done so many calf raises just to fill in time. CAN'T WAIT to be able to get back at it!
God Bless!

CAN'T WAIT to be able to get back at it! God Bless! Time to switch it up?? You might want to try some smith presses and some one legged squats. ;D ;D It's great to see you making progress my friend. Most of us us on this end can't wait to see you 'get back at it' either. God Bless and continued progress.

Yall better watch out. I'm on the way back. Tuesday the doc told me I should be up to the 20 pound dumbells by 7/7/09. I've had to warn people at the gym to stand back so as not to be injured by my massive bicep, and have to caution them when dropping one. Those 10-pounders tend to cause the building to shake a little when dropped, you know...
So I'm using the 10 pounder for 3x12 on all the exercises I've been doing, going to bump the weight 2.5 to 5 pounds every few days. (Yes, I actually had a pair of 1.25 pound plates in my barn.... but at least they're not pink....) On 7/7 I ought to be good to put my hands on the 45 pound bar. WOO HOO!!!
Been going up to 365x2 on the smith squats. Don't like doing any more weight since it's kinda hard to twist the bar back into the rack with one hand. Also, have to start squats at the bottom since when loading with one hand only it's not conducive to front delt raises with a 45-pounder.... yall think about it....
Otherwise, just keeping a positive attitude, too busy counting blessings to be discouraged.
God Bless!

It's great to hear that you are making progress Doug. Maybe one day, I'll make it up to the 20s. Here's one for you to count. Those concentric squats should go a long ways toward helping you maintain your deadlift. They are a fantastic accessory exercise for conventional deaders.

Good Googly Moogly you are showing those dumbbells who's the boss!
Great to see you coming along. Echo 3speed, I like those concentric squats.

Concentric squats suck. That being said, last week I did a Smith squat with a 415 load. I'm guessing that's about 385 "smith weight" but it felt good to have some weight on my back!
Doing all those reps caused me to develop tennis elbow, so I've slacked off the reps. Doing the 20# dumbell for all curls. When the doc's not looking I'm up to 75 on the bench. Doing 20's and 25's on the triceps, which seem to be progressing much better than the biceps... go figure...
:')
Counting blessings! Every trip to the gym is a gift!
God Bless.

Glad to see the progress brother. I can't wait to walk again and make a similiar comeback. Keep up the hard work and thanks for keeping us updated and motivated. No sir! I think the 500 bench at 250 would be better than the knee replacement. Stick with the getting fit mentality, and if the knee follows then fine. But I think the guys hit it on the head when they unanimously said health was more important than a deadlift or squat. That being said, thanks for the props. That being said the Ruger SBH 44 with the 10" barrel might need a little attention this weekend.... So you liked the LCR, glad to hear from someone I've met who's actually shot the thing... I'm with you on the SP, though. I guess I"m old fashioned and would prefer to hang one of those out of sight than a brand new model.... The SBH is NOT good for CCW, though... Hope the knee is coming around! God BLess.

"The SBH is NOT good for CCW, though..."
hahahah...ya think? Reminds me of that scene from the movie "Johnny Dangerously" where Joe Piscopo's character pulls out of his jacket the two-foot barreled: "....88 Magnum... it shoots through Schools"
My Glock 23 (because all Men's calibers either Start with a "4" or End with a "Mag") is a little much for CCW, particularly in summer...

Right now I'm grinnin' like a mule eating briars.
Today's squat day. Reason enough for being in a good mood right there. 135x10 225x5 315x3 405x1 430x1 315x10
It felt some kind of good to have some weight on a real bar on my back!
Came up with a new slogan for a guy I'm working out with this summer. He's 6'-2", 303 pounds, 525 bench, and his name is whatever the heck he tells you it is. But I can't make him work legs more than for conditioning. So out of the blue I tell him "Passing out is your body's way of saying GOOD SET!"
:')
7/14/09 Next trip to the doc to see if I can use more than 20# with the left arm.
God Bless!
