We would like to announce the unveiling of our new organization, the North American Highlander Association, Inc. (NAHA). NAHA will be offering a new strength competition which is a unique combination of the Scottish Highland Games and Strongman along with testing one's overall strength and athleticism. All contests will consist of half HG and half SM events. Events are planned for 2009 with more on the way. We are currently working with PRO HG/SM athletes to help promote the sport and are in contact with numerous festivals and events to host future contests. We know there will be some growing pains along the way but feel confident to get through those. 2009 will be spent mostly on the promoting and furthering of the North American Highlander Association and the highlander sport. The tentative plan is to have the first Annual NAHA Nationals in July/August 2010. Nationals will be open to all current members who have participated in at least one NAHA sanctioned event. Understand, we are in no way trying to compete with or do business against any other organization. In fact, we hope to work side by side with other related sports organizations. We are simply offering another option to all the strength athletes out there. If you are interested in becoming involved with North American Highlander Association, Inc. (NAHA) or would like to promote an event, become a member or possibly a state chair, please contact us at www.nahighlander.com for more information. Please visit us at www.nahighlander.com for more information about rules, events planned, membership, merchandise, etc. or contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. Thank you for your time and we hope to see you on the field.

No, this is not a new strongman organization. It is a mix of highland games and strongman. No doping tests yet, we are too new at this time but will be definitely looking at that in the future.

That's awesome DJ. It only make sense the way those sports cross over. To bad Nebraska is a bit of a haul. Envy creeps in.

Chancey, Who would that be? I talked to Bill Crawford(of NH) last night. He puts on a big Pro version of the Highlander. Also, Don Stewart just became our Mass. state chair. We should be able to accomodate you with somewhere to compete. Thanks, D.J.

sasquatch, The caber is scored on a degrees/clock method. It is all in relation to the thrower. You want to try and get 12:00 which would have the caber laying directly in front of you(perpendicular). The Braemar stones usually weigh between 20#-26#. If you haven't been here, check out this site. Great Highland Games info. www.nasgaweb.com/rules.asp

Thanks DJ I have found another site also that answered a bunch of my questions.
I need to round up something that I can use to me height with, and also get some equipment for the hammer throw. I like the old school real hammer better than the new age hammer but oh well.
Also Open stone for distance does it have to be of a certin size or can it be any weight?(It does have to be put correct)
Thanks dj

The Braemar has to be from a standing position whereas the open can use the spin or glide. The open stone should weigh 16-17lbs.

Hey Jason. I am also talking with DJ about possibly running a meet in Maryland. I would be happy to come out in May and assist you in running this meet as a judge, timer, etc, just to get the experience and see what it is all about. I am familiar with strongman, however not highland games. Let me know if you need any help.

Just some FYI, We will be posting up more events for next year, in Jan./Feb., as most everyone is preparing for the holidays at this time. Also, plan on NAHA Nationals. Due to the great response to the organization and number of meets that will be held next year, we are going to hold Nationals. Look for more details in January as the entry form will be posted. There will be 5 National Champions crowned next year.
