Hi Joe, I'm not sure if you overdid it, but I'm trying to figure out what the goal is with having rep ranges of 50, 21, 3, etc.. all in one session? Most certainly, the shock to the system was accomplished . The rest looks like classic "punk kid" workout (not knocking it, I've been there) just kind of using fatigue and failure as a measure of the rep range without a clear purpose of what you are targeting (local muscular endurance, hypertrophy, strength, or power). Again, not bashing it and enthusiasm is always a plus. It just looks like a lot of different strength components were all mashed into one workout. If you want musc endurance keep everything 12-15 rep, size in the 8-12, strength should be 3-6. These are guidelines, of course, and find what works for you.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on the crazy rep ranges . The dips for the crazy high reps- he just wanted to get a good pump so we repped out .
It was like you said a mish mash of this and that, I just have to admire how much this kid wants it !

Chancey: "not knocking it, I've been there" been there too...<hangs head sheepishly> JoeBear...looks like were about the same size, 5'10-5'11, 198-ish...( except my triceps aren't gi-huge-ic like yours! ) I would try steering your guy toward a JM Blakely style workout... Work him up to 85% 1RM with strict form singles, and then 4 sets of 6 at the same weight, strict 2 second pauses. When he gets all four for 6, move up five pounds. Lately, I've been doing that one day a week, and the other day mixing in various rack work with JM presses for the triceps. The young guy might be able to handle two pause press days and one gadget play day per week...but you have to be careful with overtraining!

Thanks toolpod :
I will steer him that direction . He is VERY eager to train, learn etc... normally I wouldn't have done a useless workout like that but I thought about the "shock" principle to my body etc...
I am going to talk to him tomorrow when we hit legs and try to get him on the right path .
Thanks for the advice !
Joe
