Your responding well to the deads. Much to my chagrin I might add. I suppose you'll be doing triple BWT soon too. Man, it aint easy being fat.

3Speed: Thanks! Funny you should mention that, but early on I noticed that the second and third reps were easier than the first. Then...and I can't remember where I saw the link here...might have been one of the Gym Muse's links, but it was to an article on training deads that said just what you did...train more singles instead of reps. The article made a point that on your first lift, the weight is dead...the body isn't really tensioned, but on the next reps, the body is already spring tensioned, storing mechanical energy during the stretch down...making the next reps really more like "live lifts" instead of dead lifts. Sounds reasonable anyways Plus, like you said, you only get one shot on the platform. Chancey: Doh! Thanks, er, um sorry man! Triple BWT?!? no way! I'll be happy just to make double BWT... Besides, the whole reason I'm doing them is because I'm hoping to help my bench, and maybe put a good showing in at a push-pull meet.

Heavy singles SUCK! But man they work good. I guess if they were easy, everyone would do an Andy Bolton 1003.002 deadlift.......
The part I like is that yours are responding in a BIG way. We're going to end up seeing a Dennis Cieri bench and a Beau Moore deadlift coming out of one dude......SCARY........
God Bless.

Ok...let's not get carried away! I'm "only" 80 lbs behind Dennis' bench...and a paltry 400-odd pounds away from Beau Moore!

Yeh, TP. It's called stretch reflex. Watch a video of Andy Bolton deadlifting. He creates an artificial stretch reflex for his dead by actively dropping his hips just before he lifts. He doesn't spend any time at the bottom. Any stretch reflex that the body generates is lost after 3-4 seconds. A lot of lifters drop to the deadlift and spend too long down there thus allowing any S/R they have generated to dissipate.
If you would like to see some writing on it, go to drsquat.com and look through the articles - some very interesting reading on how and why the body responds as it does to heavy training.
Just in case you wanted to know...........

That very interesting. I know I have fallen victim to spending too much time down at the bottom. Geez 3speed what else you holding out on us?

Missed reps and all that looks like one killer workout. Killer 455 on the 3b. I like how you finish all that off with 315 x 8. I would be real happy with that workout.

Thanks! the 475 and 495 were close, but 515 ended up being a 4-board negative eheheh... I'm just feeling the need for volume....and the misses made me feel like a slacker...along with the verbal abuse of my spotter! I think next week I'll look for higher volume around 405...maybe spend more sets of 3 or even 5 reps at 405-425 so I get more total time-under-tension for the triceps.

That's a solid contingency plan. I don't have but two heavy deadlift days to the meet, but I think I'm going to go more on volume.
Yeah, I know what 3Speed said. But I do my sets of 3 as though they are actually 3 sets of 1, just follow each other very closely. :')
TP, you are "only" doing 2.5xbodyweight for a negative. Man my heart is bleeding.
:')
God Bless.

Sat 17-Nov-06 Legs day (2 in one week!) Also training with my wife today, taking her through Squats, bench, and deads...She might be doing a meet sometime in the near future! 5 Minutes cardio on the dreadmill Squats, 1-2" below parallel: 8X45 8X135 8X225 3X285 (Thought it was 275...had 25 on one side, and a 35 on the other... ) 1X315 Deadlifts: 8X45 8X135 8X225 1X275 Belt on 1X325 Done! (But not before making my wife sweat through some 4-board presses...bwahahahahah!)

Hehehe...only made her do 115 on the 4-board after taking her up to it on the flat bench. ;D She hates me today. Sun 19-Nov-06 Chest day Rotator cuff prehab Flat bench: 8X135 8X225 8X315 Left shoulder sore deep today...took some time to warm up, I was going to back off, but after the first set of 3-boards it felt A.J.-squared-away. 3-Board press: 3X315 3X365 5X405 7X405 (almost 8...spotter got a row in today ;D) 3X455 2X475 (2nd one assisted) Flat bench for reps: 20X225 Incline bench: 8X225 Done...with plenty of time to make it to Church, no less. Thanks to the Big Man Upstairs for a great workout!

Amen!
Um, was Ms. Toolpod giving thanks, or praying for patience? :')
Extremely strong board presses! I never cease to be amazed! Who cares if the spotter had to row one or two?
God Bless.

She normally does both... Thanks Doug, I really had a great day...especially after a slow start...the weights just kept moving. I was really happy about the triple at 455, I can't remember the rule of triples...is it 2board or 3board, that is you can get a triple, you are on track for a full press at that weight? 2 more weeks at board press, then 3 weeks of heavy reps&speed days...and then its time to pay the piper...new max attempts!

Chairman of the board! HA! I GET IT!
I think it's the triples, TP, but since I don't use the boards, don't take that as chiseled in stone.
Looking STRONG m'man!

Tue 21-Nov-06 Should be legs day. However, since Saturday, my back hasn't felt *right*, so I am laying up and doing some light motion with just bodyweight to get the blood flowing in the lower back. Not really hurt, just listening to the body. Discretion is the better part of valor... Deadlifts: 8X2lbs 8X2lbs 8x2lbs Squats: 8X2lbs 8X2lbs 8X2lbs Done 'til tomorrow. Going to hit some Advil.

LOVE that Hammer decline! Nice weight for reps there, I'm familiar with it so I can respect that weight a LOT! Nice work on the boards! I noticed a trend with the 365/405/405 sets. C'mon now, you're not supposed to be able to add weight AND reps! :')
You know what I'm fixing to say about that shoulder...... RICEIhMd!
