for someone to build quality muscle and strength without eating red meat? I am seriously considering cutting red meat from my diet for health reasons and wonder if fish, turkey and chicken are good enough. I ams ure many of you know that our bodies don't handle animal fats as well as we may like to think they do. We were designed to eat fruits, grains, vegetables, legumes and nuts. Is it possible to build muscle on only those things? I have trouble believing it so I thought maybe fish and such would have to be eaten. What is your take?

BigJohn, absolutely! A chicken breast has something along the lines of 6 grams of protein per ounce. Bake or grill that sucker and you have an almost fat- and cholesterol-free serviing of protein, that with a little TLC can actually be flavorful. And certain fish have health qualities the chickens and turkeys can't compare to, being those omega-3 fatty acids.
And yes, you can fry, but you have to learn proper frying technique. It involves a pan, a high quality oil like olive or canola (in very small quantities) and NO flour! It's basically a saute, but not blackening. I use this technique quite a bit. One tablespoon of olive oil per day can help cut cholesterol.
Speaking of cholesterol, check your protein powder. My cholesterol went up pretty bad, so I switched brands. My original brand had 20% of my daily cholesterol per serving. Figure in 3 servings per day, plus regular meals, well, you get the picture. I switched to a protein powder that has no fat, no cholesterol, no carbs, and is actually drinkable. How they did that, I'll never know! PM me if you want the brand.
Hope some of this helps.
God Bless. Doug
